After more than 2 months of debate and discussions that have involved the whole city, from the inhabitants to the council to the mayor.
In last night, during the celebrations of the millenary spent by the foundation of the city, the mayor has finally declared in the official discourse to the citizen the intention to place a Bid for the next Simlympic games that will be held in august.
The mayor has declared during the celebrations last night:
'In these months the negotiations and the projectsare have been held secret , to make all of this a gift for the millenary of our city'
and also 'we want all of you to participate in this candidacy, to make even more important our city and even more beautiful'.
Here are some photos of the celebrations

In today's forenoon during the weekly press conference, has been introduced the logo of the candidacy and a preliminary project of the jobs with the relative ends. According to the main project the principal area of the Simlympic park should be displaced in the south-east of the city, in an area now occupied by industries in phase of abandon.
The recovery of these zones has made the birth of the park possible in an ideal zone, at the entrace of two highways, next to the high speed railstation and connected with two railway lines.
This zone seems to be the natural prosecution of the historical 'Parco del Valentino' (Valentines park) that already host numerous sport venues.

In the late evening of today has been made a further footstep toward the candidacy to the Games of August with the completion of the project 'Vision City' that reorganizes a new area of the city.
The three buildings host three different organizations that have the purpose to promote the development of the Alameda, in this context the Organizing Committee of the Games is inserted.

Wow, awesome bid! I love the fact there are existing arenas as well as arenas still to be built, which is far more realistic.
The industrial park should be great too, as canuck said great transport links. I'd like to see a bit more of the city, maybe showing the airport and water areas Smile. But very nice bid so far.

The first phase of the jobs for the park foresee the demolition of the old factories and the removal of the rubbles to create a free space where the the sketch of the projects will be found.

Alameda Bid for the August Simlympic Alamed23
In this shoot the effects of the first demolitions and the moves of the ground services (high speed rail and highways) can be noticed.

The next step will be to continue with the demolitions, to study some new lines for the railroad and to bury the roads, to create an only pedestrian surface in the whole park.

More information and shoot of the city coming soon.

Our Region: geographical information.

Alameda Bid for the August Simlympic Nome_c10
The metropolitan area of Alameda is founded upon the union of the 7 municipalities that leans out on the Blue Bay.
Alameda, Alameda Heighs and Ibla, Newark, Richmond, Helmet Point and Berkley are shown in the satellite photo.

Newark
Newark counts almost 150.000 inhabitants, it's a city to commercial and tertiary vocation, congressional center and home of a lot of commercial enterprises.
To the east border of the city the most important airport of the region is found, called Aeroporto Internazionale Alameda Urbe. From here they depart the most of the flights with national and international destinations. Many projects for the Simlympics foresee the adjustment of the historical airport and the construction of other two.

Alameda Heighs
Positioned on the mountains that surround to north-east Alameda, it mainly founds her economy on the sporting tourism, it' s particularly famous for the numerous structures devoted to the winter sports and for the typical mountains 'chalet'.
It is, besides, an important knot for the system of transports, from here comes the traffic in entrance and in exit for/from Alameda through the Alps that sourrounds the whole region.

Richmond
It is the commercial heart of the region, and second city for population (about 230.000)in the region. Our Region: Population

The districts that compose the metropolitan area of Alameda almost count a population of 1,400,000 inhabitants, representatives more than one hundred different nationalities.
More than 940,000 people are employed in the commercial and tertiary sector, 150,000 in the industry and 10,000 in the agriculture.
The population has a middle age of 47years, middle-high level of education and a good level of health.
The growth of the inhabitants in the region has been a very important phenomenon for 100 years to this part: if in a first moment the industry has attracted numerous slices of rural population, the heavy crisis of the years '60 have brought to a drastic collapse of the presences in the city.
Thanks to the conversion of the economy from the industrial sector to the commercial one, and thanks also to the immigration of foreigners, the region reaches the million inhabitants 15 years ago, while today it is overcoming the million and three hundred aiming to the million and a half for the period of opening of the Games.
Here are some significatives datas about the population in the various cities:

Alameda: 321,000 inhabitants, 10,670 industrial population, 421,482 commercial population
Richmond: 230,000 inhabitants, 168,231 commercial population, 38,837 industrial poputation.
Berkley: 150,000 inhabitants, 57,670 commercial population
Newark: 142,000 inhabitants, 39,514 industrial population, 53,650 commercial population

Our Region: transport system

Highway

Alameda Bid for the August Simlympic Autos10
The regional motorway system has been more times redrawn in operation of the traffic and of the necessities of connection among the various districts.
The photo shows the motorway network around Alameda, Newark and Ibla, and it is particularly centered on the Simlympic park to show its connections with such system.
To Alameda 4 highways converge: the a-4 highways directly finishes in the proximities of the Simlympic park and connect the city with Newark and the southeast suburbs, besides, thanks to a release creates a direct connection with the International Airport.
The a-9 surrounds the city from north to east, introduces three principal exits that brings directly in the heart of Alameda: the first one bring to north-east of the Simlympic park, the second one bring to Viale Certosa (the most important avenue that cuts the city from west to east), and the third one to north finishes orso Vittoria (a central avenue from south to north). Besides on a-9 converge the traffic coming from the a-26 and the a-14.
A-26 moves toward Alameda highs and continues to north-east bringing to the passes that cross the Alps that surround the city, while the a-14 run across Ibla, Richmond, and Berkley continuing toward north.

Our Region: transport system

High Speed Rail

Alameda Bid for the August Simlympic Hsr10
The HSR project has been introduced in Alameda twenty years ago, so far it counts 4 principal stations ( in Alameda near the Simlympic park, Newark, Ibla and Berkley) 300,000 passengers a day, a middle speed of 130Km/h, one line that crosses the whole region from south to north and 50 minutes-run from a terminal to the other.
The photo shows the HSR's layout (in blue) that departs from the terminal of Newark and reaches the Ibla Central Station passing trough Alameda, from ibla it continues toward north in direction of Richmond to finally end in the terminal of Berkley.
In photo are also suitable the principal stations (blue rectangles) and the secondary ones (blue circle).
The high speed line is very important for the transport's logistic of the Simlympic zone; two stations are located in the main Simlympic park zone, it furnishes a direct connection with the airport, and it creates a direct link among the park the the region.

Rail

Alameda Bid for the August Simlympic Ferovi10
In the map they are suitable the principal railway lines (in black) and the stations of medium and big dimensions.
The railway net of the region is very vast and complex and has been re-designed many times.
Only in Alameda there are six stations, and about twenty in the rest of the region.
The railway net had the greatest development in the time together with the underground one, and with it is the most used by citizens and attracted more investments.
The main station in the region is the Alameda 'Oldgate' Central in which converge 4 railway lines coming from south, north and north-east, i's calculated that passes from here almost a million passengers a day among workers, tourists and people of passage.
The 'Symlimpic Park Hub' is a station of nearly construction, and it furnishes a system of inter-change among various ways of transport, for exhample: subway, bus, elevated rail, railroad and HSR.
The Simlympic park station will be the principal station of the Simlympic park, it will provide a direct pedestrian connection with the principal stadiumsof the park.

Port and Airport

Alameda Bid for the August Simlympic Porti_10
Currently the region has only an international airport, located in Newark, and one industrial seaport on the bay and a few dock for the private boats. The dimensions of such structures are always been enough, nevertheless for the organization of the games are in phase of project the adjustment of the old airport of Newark, the construction of a new airport for the national flights in the east zone of Alameda and the construction of new docks for the Simlympic's aquatic disciplines and a berth for the cruise ships.

Our City: Alameda

Alameda is a multicultural city of 328,000 inhabitants representing more than 100 nationalities. Often referred to as the «Blue Riviera», the city has a rich heritage as the nation’s major Sea port city, resort destination and a prominent cultural centre.
Set between the shores of the Blue Bay and the soaring snow-capped Alps, Alameda offers visitors a unique taste of coastal and mountain living, all with a distinct European flavor. Beautiful weather and an abundance of powdery snow are not the only reason to visit Alameda. The area’s endless beaches, national parks, imposing architecture, arts festivals and lively café culture have made the city an elegant haven for artists, executives, families and athletes alike.
Located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, Alameda is in close proximity to both the European, Asian and African continents and is a convenient gateway to these regions.
As such, the city has hosted a large number of national and European meetings and a large number of cultural and sports events.
Today, with passion and commitment, Alameda is seeking the opportunity to host the biggest event in its history, the 2008 Simlympic Games, which will transform the city into a world-class destination.

Sweet, loads of new images Very Happy. I'm really impressed with the amount of stadiums, it seems you have almost all of the sports covered now which is great. My favourite stadiums are probably the globe arena and the crystal palace, they both look really awesome.

The Simlympic Park is really nice, I like the tower next to the stadium - makes the bid instantly recognizable. Transport for the area appears to be great too.

I like the media stuff, that's cool. Especially the media village, don't think I've seen that before Smile.

Fantastic new pics LeLeOne!
