What You Need To Include In Your Simlympic Bid:

The main thing with your city is it will have to accommodate the Simlympics events and athletes, so you absolutely must have ALL the necessary venues (BAT availability notwithstanding), and accommodation for the athletes and officials (Simlympic Village), media (Media Centre), and fans (hotels). On top of this, a well developed transport network is required to move the masses of people around. What you do and how you show it is up to you!

Event Venues:
A quick guide in case you can't be bothered investigating whats required:

Archery
The archery range is 70m long, so this often held in stadiums with temporary seating.

Athletics
Track & Field events take place in an athletics stadium (often the main stadium)
Marathons (42km) and Race Walking (20km, 50km) events are held on city streets - either a single loop or several laps of a course.

Badminton
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Baseball / Softball
Takes place in an baseball stadium. Preliminaries often held outside the host city.
Softball stadiums are smaller than baseball ones.

Basketball
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Beach Volleyball
Either a natural beach, or an appropriately sized artificial beach in a stadium.

BMX
A dirt/asphalt track with several jumps and an 8m high start ramp.

Boxing
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Cycling
Track events to take place inside the velodrome.
Road cycling to take place through the streets and surrounding countryside of the host city.

Equestrian
Dressage and showjumping take place in a show ring (actually rectangular) with stadium seating. Cross country is, well, across country, with jumps and water features.

Fencing
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Football
A few Football (Soccer) stadiums will be needed to ensure the group matches can take place without any problems. It's perfectly fine to have some of these in other cities besides the host city.

Golf
Takes place on a golf course.

Gymnastics
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Handball
Takes place in an indoor arena.

(Field) Hockey
Takes place in a hockey stadium with artificial turf.

Indoor Volleyball
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Judo
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Modern Pentathlon
Fencing, shooting, swimming, equestrian, and running can be held in the main venue for these disciplines, or at a separate venue if the distance between them is too great.

Mountain Biking
Takes place on a suitably hilly dirt track.

Rowing, Canoeing & Kayaking
Usually on an artificial rowing lake these days - rowing events are over 2km, so this is probably the biggest single venue you'll have to build.

Rugby Sevens
Takes place in a rugby stadium, or a requisitioned soccer-type stadium.

Sailing
Takes place in the sea if possible, or if no sea is available a large lake. Often takes place in a different part of the nation if the host city is inland.

Shooting
Target shooting takes place on an indoor range.
Trap and skeet shooting take place on an outdoor range.

Slalom Canoeing & Kayaking
Takes place on a purpose build whitewater rapids course.

Swimming
Takes place in an indoor swimming arena, except the 10km Marathon which is held outdoors in a lake.

Synchronised Swimming
Takes place in an indoor swimming arena.

Table Tennis
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Taekwondo
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Tennis
Takes place in a tennis stadium.

Trampoline
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Triathlon
The swim leg is outdoors, in a lake or the sea, followed by a 50km cycle leg and 10km run through city streets.

Water Polo
Takes place in an indoor swimming arena.

Weightlifting
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Wrestling
Takes place in an indoor arena.

Note several indoor arenas will be needed, as it is impossible to fit them all in one or two. Please also bare in mind that this is by no means the definitive "what you need" - it is more of a helping hand for anyone that is stuck. If, for instance, you don't use Stadium X for Sport Y (as suggested here) it will have no effect on your chances of winning the right to host (unless your choice of venue is totally unsuitable).

Ok got it. And I have another question. Is Slacker making another separate post/thread for the actual bid or are we bidding in our current posts? I was just wondering because the thread says "Future Possible Bids" so I was confused if thats where the actual bid goes.

Should probably add some dimensions for the rowing lake too, since I don't think anyone has done one thats remotely like the real thing yet, and I've even seen some that a row boat would struggle to fit in.

Rowing events are held over a distance of 2000m, so you need a lake approximately 2.2km long and 100m wide, which if you use the 16m/square scale is about 140 squares long (a medium city tile is 128x128, for comparison) and 7 wide. Another approximation is it would be about 10 times longer than the main stadium.
You can of course mess with the scaling to make it look right in your city (that's what Maxis did in the first place!), but remember that a man-made lake will look *very* long, and will almost certainly not fit in your simlympic park, or the urban area of your city.

The Simlympic programme is not the same as the Olympic programme. Hence some popular events like Baseball have survived here. We're currently considering adding some X-Games events that fit within the Olympic theme. Smile

I'll go give the first post a sweep so that its up to date too.

I don't think it's wise to add more events without taking some out - at my count with a realistic bid you need a minimum of 25 venue's to host the simlympics... and thats not counting the 4 football venues required to host football. And some venues, ie slalom and the bmx course are no where to be found.
