Simlympic Torch Relay

Post by Slacker on Mon Jul 28, 2008 6:54 pm

For the first time ever, we will be doing a torch relay. It will start on August 1st and will tour around the world up until the start of the August Simlympics in Penthesili. The torch relay will be in a different city every day for 23 days. The tour will go across land, sea and air and will travel past monuments and world wonders as it reaches it's destination, the Simlympic Torch at Penthesili.

Which cities are taking part?
Cities from all over the SimWorld will be participating, with CJs/MDs housed on many different websites taking part. There are still places left on the Torch Relay, so if you'd like your CJ/MD to take part just send me a PM Smile. We are going to be keeping the list of participating cities under wraps so to add an element of surprise to the relay. Although, all of the coverage for the Torch Relay will be posted in this thread too.

Hope you enjoy the torch relay, beginning August 1st!

Now, for the first day of the Torch Relay:

Day 1 - New Rhodesia - 6Underground

The Simlympics comes home, to first host nation, as the torch makes it way through the city:

Starting off at the Welsh parliament, the Torch relay squad passed over Prince Llywelyn Bridge, over the gorgeous Metroplex, astride the museum of sentient rights to cheering crowds:

The route continued down through union quay park into Rhodendron bay, and the torch runner scaled the many stairs within the Celtica Colossus, and finally... THE TORCH WAS LIT!

Ha ha, the smoke from the torch in the streets looks like a car burning Laughing (although I have no idea how much smoke burns from a real Olympic torch). Great work 6U, perfect place for the torch relay to start Very Happy

Sorry for lack of day 2 guys. My internet was down for most of last night and the host of days 2 & 3 seems to have disappeared, although it was his birthday yesterday so I guess we can let him off Razz. I'm hoping I can get someone else to post their coverage today, so we don't go two days without a post - which would suck.

Thanks for the support Smile.

Starting at the Marceau Bank Stadium(Marceau's Newest Stadium and Home to the Marceau Galaxy of the RVFL as well as 1922 Marceau FC of the RVFA Premiere Division)

The Torch will make it's way up Central Marceau Univ. Avenue then up Evergreen Avenue all the way into downtown passing Marceau Veterans Cementary

then heading south onto Ste.Catherines Ave. and West on the Outer Loop they'll head into the Marceau Mountain Centre District of Town.

The route will then head down la Montange BLVD. to the Ballpark at MMC where the Torch will be light to "Ignite the Passion within" the flame will burn from Now till the end of the games.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Day 3 - Leah, Kingdom of Paranor Island - CraigKingOfIreland

The Simlympic Torch Relay has come to Paranor Island and the it's capital city, Leah

Here is a map of the route the torch will be taking with major landmarks along the way

The event has been widely covered by the national media as it is a much needed happy occasion for the country's citizens

Many of the city's major roads were closed off for the route, but not many people have been angered by the fact. Here is the torch as it passes by Parliament building

The torch passed by many important sporting areas of the city, including the University of Leah

Thousands of people lined the city's streets for the event with great enthusiasm. Here is a huge number of people gathered at Guinness Stadium minutes before the torch passes
