Youth Simlympic Games Empty Re: Youth Simlympic Games

Post by Aranho Mon Dec 14, 2009 6:07 am

In my opinion, Youth Simlympic Games is the same as the normal Simlympic Games except that it's scaled down. Take the real life Youth Olympic Games (YOG): it emphasize more on education than competition, a main Olympic Stadium isn't required also. For example, the 2010 First YOG to be held in Singapore: it didn't built any main stadium for the opening and closing ceremony. Rather, it uses the world's largest floating platform.

So, if the ISC gonna approve the Youth Simlympic Games, I don't know how same or different will it be compared to the normal Simlympic Games.

Advantages and Disadvantages...

Advantages: It gives a country that may not be ready to host the games yet a chance to host something.

It gives us more events and more involvement

Disadvantages: It may not be too much different than the simlympics now... which would make another games pointless. This is really tough to say good idea or bad. If the ISC can hammer out the details to the point where it wouldn't just be another games with a different name then yeah I'm all for it.

The ISC has considered this option and is on the back burner for the moment.

Well, if the advantage of making YSG is that small regions could host something and the disadvantages is that the YSG would be the same that the Simlimpics, maybe we could do something like the World Championships, being Alpine Ski World Championships, Athletics World Championships, Swimming World Championships, Nordic Ski World Championships and Gymnastics World Championships. On this way the events would be smaller than the Simlympics, different, and they could be managed by unexperienced regions. Rolling Eyes

In fact, we are going to celebrate the I Alpine and Nordic Ski World Championships on CSC, on January. The World Championships is an idea coming from very long, and those are going to be the first on CSC.

Youth Simlympic Games Empty Re: Youth Simlympic Games

Ya know, it's something we've been mulling over. I'm personally in favour of the idea in principle, I think a 'mini-Simlympics' with less competition to host could provide an excellent platform for those not confident enough to host the entire games, or provide a great learning ground for future Simlympic hosts. However, as mentioned above, a 'mini-Simlympics' is just not enough, it needs something to differentiate itself from the main games. What that something is, I do not know. But if anyone has any ideas, i'd be more than happy to hear them Smile.

Youth Simlympic Games Empty Re: Youth Simlympic Games

Maybe we could look how the first Youth Olympic Games (hosted by Singapore) goes this year in August. If the YOG goes smoothly, then maybe we could learn a tip or two and try to create our own.

But what I have mentioned months ago, the real-world YOG focus mostly on education of the Olympics rather than international competition. Here's a snippet from Wikipedia, with the "important" points in bold.

The sports contested at these games will be the same as those scheduled for the traditional Games, but with a limited number of disciplines and events.

Of the 26 sports, the IOC plans, for example, not to include the water polo and synchronized swimming disciplines of aquatics, as well as the slalom discipline of canoeing on the schedule of events. The basketball competition may be “streetball,” in which games are held outside and sometimes with fewer players. The cycling disciplines are mountain bike and BMX, and road and track cycling were left off the schedule. Baseball and Softball were also not included on the list of sports.

Other youth-driven sports may eventually be contested if backed by international sports federations. In November 2007, it was revealed that pentathlon will be included, as well as sailing, giving an edge to candidate cities near water.

The Winter edition will contest seven sports. Luge, bobsled and skeleton are possible casualties considering the small number of worldwide venues and restrictions in building new venues. In the bidding for the first edition, one bid city was nevertheless planning to construct a bobsled/sleigh run (Harbin), while another was not offering bobsled as an event (Kuopio).

Another difference is that no national flags or anthems will be utilized. During medal ceremonies, only the Olympic flag and the Olympic anthem will be seen and heard in order to deemphasize international competition.

pongsatorn2540 please don't bring up old posts or threads the last post was over a year and a half ago there was obviously no interest here anymore. While I do love returning to the past I don't like old threads that no one liked coming back from the dead.
