Yeah I saw it but I can say that I didnít like it very much. I expected something else. More human less militaristic. But some fireworks I ve made are similar with beijing's

well I understand what you mean.....I didn't like it too in part....probably beacause the chinese culture is more collective, rigid and schematic than the European or american ones

I thought it was amazing as a whole. There were some bits I didn't get, they were a bit too....strange Smile But overall it was spectacular.

Exactly. I donít want to compare different civilizations Chinese has itĎs own great culture, but in Athens we presented more theatrical, simple but still spectacular ceremony. What I saw on Friday was a nation that wants to tell us about its strength and its new power. the new super power.

I suppose you're right, it was very "anything you can do, we can do better" by making it on such a huge scale.

mmm I agree with you, all the ceremony has been very auto-commemorative....but I don't think that they want to show to the world their new power or things like that.
Unfortunately I have not seen the ceremony of Athens, but I was present to the Turin ones, and in comparison was more intimate, scenografic and perhaps comprehensible to a vast public...but maybe they are my suggestions

The best thing is to participate in these games because the possibility to be hosted by your city or the country is extremely low.

ya there is a good chance its going to Brazil in '16.... never say never when it comes to the IOC.

but going back, I think China did a great job artistically with the opening ceremony. (as a musician I notice these things)

As a political person I notice that the government pressed there communist give everything to the state, the future of the state is the future of the people system right up the west's rear. So in that case I was not impressed at all and was rather disheartened, but not at all surprised, the Chinese government would use the opening ceremony of the games as propaganda.

Just like the Nazi's did for the 1936 Games.

I am not saying that China does not deserve the games, but I do think the Peoples Republic of CHina have broken one of the key rules of the Olympic Spirit and that is not politicising the games, which is what they have done by using the Olympics as a sideshow to demonstrate their facade of a Utopia.

The Chinese Government today said that people go to the Olympics are for watching and reporting on sports and not human rights. They also have claimed that they didn't make any promises to the IOC to win the Games. They just choose to ignore their flaws and think that we don't see them.

I think that Rogge is doing a good job into cancel from the Olympiads all of this that concerns with the spirit of peace and communion to which the Olympic movement should inspire. He has never given sign of pressures on the Chinese State for the Tibetan matter, and he hasn't declared nothing concerning the Russian aggression to Georgia, that has in fact broken the Olympic truce (all this without forgetting the Russian Olympiads in 2014).

well the olympic truce since the 1980's has really not been much in application really the only time I've seen a truce out of sports was the 2002 World cup I forget what nation in particular but the entire nation was plunged into civil war the two sides agreed to a cease fire to route on there countries team in the world cup. Often with rebels and loyalists playing on the same football team.

Yes you are right, dljrfn, but it's tradition of the Olympic Committee making sign to the participants nations an 'essay of not belligerency' before the Games's start. It's a pity that however all of this remains a formality....and it's sure that Rogge has a debatable attitude toward certain situations
