The Simlympics Lab

Hello, has the "Head of Research" at the ISC, it's my job to solicit and investigate ways to enhance the Simlympic experience. I'm starting this thread to provide a place for your comments, thoughts, wishes and dreams for the way that we play the Simlympics.

This could include a discussion about new sports, suggestions for how winners are determined, new techniques to make the games more realistic and more fun, or anything else along these lines. I'll investigate your suggestions, and, if it looks like something that is viable and has community support, I'll present that idea to the ISC for possible implementation.

Here's something that I have talked about a few months back.

You've seen canoeing in the Simlympics. You've seen rowing in the Simlympics. And you've also seen sailing in the Simlympics. These are the only boating events in the Simlympics so far. But, what if there's a fourth boating event in the Simlympics?

Presenting, Dragon boating!

Originating from China during the pre-Christian era, Dragon boating has been made an international sport by Hong Kong in 1976. For more information on dragon boating, click here.

In the Simlympics, dragon boating can be held in several events as follow:

250m
500m
1000m
2000m

For the venues of dragon boating, it can be held in water bodies like lakes, rivers or the sea. However, the width of the water body about 400 m wide.

So, the sea would be the best venue for dragon boating.
Also, if Tourist City (a city in Raffore Islands) happens to win the rights to host the next Simlympics, dragon boating will be held as an demonstration sport if dragon boating doesn't become an official sport by then.

I do know that dragon boating is not an official Olympic sport, but who needs the follow that? Since it's our own sporting event, we have to be unique in one way or another. In addition, dragon boating is getting popular nowadays.

Are there men's and women's events or is just generic?

Dragon boat is an event that all people of any gender can join. There's men events, women events and mixed events.

In general with the Simlympics, is it running as a generic sport or could there be mens and womens events?

Melbourne - in general, the sports are gender-neutral. It is assumed that players wouldn't much care to see dual versions of all the events, but if you or others think otherwise this is a great place for providing that input.

Yeah exactly. In the Olympics it makes sense to have mens and womens events, but if we were to do that in the Simlympics it'd just be an exact duplicate of the mens results.
