The AMA City's Journal Empty The AMA City's Journal

Post by LeLeOne Sat Aug 16, 2008 3:18 am

AMA it's the name of the newly-born Alameda's Metropolitan Area, a decree of the Italian government approved last week imposes to the cities with more than 1mln of inhabitants to abandon the old geographical-bureaucratic system of province to turn it into the new concept of metropolitan area. The AMA is inhabited by almost 1,800,000 people, it's the third metropolitan area of Italy after Rome (3.6 mlns) and Milan (3.2mln) and precedes the Turin and Naples ones (both around the 1.6mnl).
The government organism is the 'metropolitan council' constituted by the mayors of the various cities included in the region, all coordinated by a supervisor denominated 'City Manager'.
The new City Manager declares that the birth of the AMA will bring notable benefits to the whole region, it will handle to furnish a plan of global and unified development overcoming the division among singles cities, whose effects can bee seen already today.
The guide-lines of some development's projects will bring to the growth of the population until and over over the 2mln inhabitants, thanks to projects submitted to great architects and international designer (as 'i-city' and 'post-ville') and to the already initiated construction of the new international airport of the city, the candature to host great international events as an engine for the development are not excluded (the city have already shown the interest to host the first Winter Simlympiad and the 2009 International EXPO).

The AMA metropolitan Council approved yesterday the city's development plan in 7points, each point interests a specific area of the city in which is decided to intervene radically, with great investments and great yards. The main objective is to transform the face of the city, attracting new great enterprises, to create occupation and to develop the infrastructures.
In the map below you can see the areas interested by each point.

The AMA City's Journal Mappa_10

Point 1: safeguard the historical center of Alameda
The characteristic historical center of the city and his 18th and 19th century buildings will be deeply restored, government incentives will be created for the restructurings, the services for the citizens and for the tourists will be improved, existing commercial activity will be developed and will be created new ones

Point 2: strategic retraining of the city of Newark
The city will lose its industrial role, the old airport will be dismantled, whole areas of the city will be converted to commercial and residential use, polluting industries transfer will be favorite, and an ambitious urban project of retraining will be realized: submitted to projects of the greatest international architects will born a new commercial district conceived with great parks and ultramodern skyscrapers.

Point 3: A new concept of city called 'i-ville'
A human-friendly concept of city, a low residential district full of green zone, with pedestrian zones and commercially based on tertiary services.

Point 4: Post-ville
It derives from a project of the 70's for an enormous protective dome, at the times the dome would have been realized for protecting the population from possible nuclear attacks, today the realization of this project will have nobler purposes: an agricultural community for the recovery and the employment of the most marginalized bands of the population

Point 5: the sports park
A new park where the structures built for the August 2008 Symlimpics bid now dismantled will be transferred

Point 6: Intra and Mayland
Two new cities in construction to the north limits of the region, will increase the metropolitan's population from 50,000 to 200,000 units.

Point 7: The New 'Urbe National and International Airport'
S.A.A. the society that manages the airports of Alameda, with an unanimous deliberation, decided to centralize in an unique zone the 4 airports present in the city. An unique airport will be realized, for national, international and charter destinations, with the capacity 10mln of travellers by year.

Photo and info will be available a the completion of every project.

Grat inauguration of the 'Ibla Palace'

Will be hold tonight the great inauguration's party of the 'Palace of ibla' to.
One of the most spectacular residences of Savoy Royal House has finally opened to the public after years of long restaurations. Through the years have been entirely restored frescos, tapestries, furniture and original suits of the 17th century. A great patrimony now at disposition of the public, a special mention deserves the garden, exactly reconstructed according to the original projects dated 1784.
From the majior's briefcase 'reopen the Palace it's only the first step of a long walk that attends us, the yards they have already opened trough te city's center and the citizen has realized it, they will have many uneasiness, but our purpose will be to eliminate all the ugliness of the city, and to make it a magic place as this beautiful Palace'

I'm really looking forward to seeing the development of the 7 sites, especially point 2 and 7. Will there be motorway and railway links from the airport through the mountains towards the centre of the city?

Hah, I saw adverts for Madonnas tour in Genoa last week, they were really pushing it.

Point 2: strategic retraining of the city of Newark

Here are some updates about the development of new projects to implement in Newark, photos refer to some studies on accommodation of the city, many things are still not final.

The AMA City's Journal Newark10
The AMA City's Journal Newark14
The city as looks recently, Mediapark and the airport can be easily noticed, the development plan provides for the demolition of the airport and the reclamation of the surrounding areas that will be used as new medium-density residential zones. Mediapark arise around a new 'city' dedicated to tertiary and business development, will be the third commercial hub of the region and will provide work to more than 50,000 people.

The AMA City's Journal Newark12

The AMA City's Journal Newark13
Some photos of the development that is still not definitive, unused areas will see the rise of new residential/commercial zones and parks.

The city now has seen a decline of 10% of the population, rose from 140,000 units to 120,000, and the new projects are slightly slowed by the crisis in the regional budget. At the end of the projects is estimated that residents in Newark will be between 180,000 and 220,000, so the region will exceed two million inhabitants.

The new Newark

Work on upgrading the municipality of Newark are about to come to term, tearing operated in the urban fabric were sewn creating new parks and new residential areas.
Newark, today, presents itself as a city of 208,000 inhabitants, which provides work to 115,000 people in the tertiary sector. The most important nodes of the project were the deconstruction of the old airport, the creation of a new clouster of skyscrapers (the fourth in the region, but the first for modernity and functionality of his buildings), production of the new stadium for the city with a 65,000 capacity and the adjacent sports park, and, finally, the creation of new ITC Towers (Italian Trade Center), that together with the historic Mediapark will designate today as the city centre and symbol of transition to the contemporary era.
