Centreburg 2011 - Official Bid Thread SimlympicLogo-2

The world we live in today is so diverse, with different languages, cultures, traditions and beliefs permeating the world today. Although we might get lost in translation sometimes, there is always one universal language we can all depend on - Sports. The Simlympics is the celebration of the importance of sports and its influence and power around the world today. It has given due recognition the best of man's talents and abilities, and today, Corraile is ready to prove to the world that it can more than celebrate the power of sports, but to embrace it and to give it a new lease of life.

Centreburg, the Capital of the Federal Republic of Corraile, has been preparing this bid in anticipation of the Fourteenth Summer Simlympics, to be held in June this year. As a relatively young and dynamic North American republic, we believe that we have the energy, enthusiasm and determination to host the best ever Simlympics yet.

Before we begin on the bid itself, the Simlympics Planning Committee has wasted no time and effort to make this the best of the bids this year, and has come out with a video to promote our bid for the June Simlympics! Enjoy!

In case you do not know where Corraile is located, it is marked in orange on the map below.

The City of Centreburg

Centreburg, as we all know, is the capital of Corraile, as well as it's largest city. It's renowned for many things, it's beautiful seascape, skyline and nightlife, as well as having one of the largest midtown parks ever, Downtown park, which will be one of the locations for Simlympics events. It's strategic location and natural harbour makes it an attractive place for both business and tourism, and most certainly the Simlympics.

Centreburg is unique in its architectural styles. Much of the outer downtown region consists of modern midrise offices, as well as the government-built Lofthouses, which were built in the 1970s and 1980s to alleviate the housing shortage. Today, all of these Lofthouses still look modern and house mainly middle-class residents, as well as a more artsy crowd.

Centreburg boasts a very attractive and energizing nightlife scene. The downtown is home to some world-renowned nightlife spots, such as RideUp! and Maisonette 9, which pull in celebrities from both sides of the Atlantic every year. If nightclubs don't appeal to you so much, then the city's boardwalk, which covers the majority of the downtown region's coastline, also has a bustling night scene. From jazz bands to circus acts, night power boat rides and the quintessential Alfresco dining experience, one can expect to thoroughly enjoy yourself at the Boardwalk.

Downtown Park in Centreburg is a place for people to enjoy a rare serenity in the middle of the city. Boasting at least 800 trees, as well frequent outdoor concerts by both orchestras and modern music bands, it is the place to be if one wants to enjoy life. As mentioned earlier, the park's large lake will be used for Simlympic events.

Going Green at the Simlympics

Centreburg is strongly committed to the green movement and has strived to make this Simlympics the greenest one yet. Many pro-environmental features have been included into the planning, construction and running of the games since day one, to help reduce the Simlympics' impact on the environment and to improve the conditions and environment for the Simlympics. Some of the features and plans include

  • The implementation of a total recycling plan, which would ensure that at least 85% of all general trash generated by the Simlympics would be recycled, thus reducing the amount of trash sent to the landfill, ultimately benefiting the environment. Not only that, it helps to reduce costs too!

  • Increasing green space in Simlympia and the Simlympics Village. More that 2sq km of green space was squeezed out of both locations, and more than 3000 trees, mostly Douglas Firs, were planted in the area. It has since reduced the amount of CO2 and air pollution in the area, and also naturally beautifies the area.

  • Vehicles to be used as the official fleet vehicle of the Simplympics are hybrid vehicles, Toyota Priuses, to be more precise. They have unprecedented fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions that regular cars, reducing the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. (*note, for those who really don't want to drive a Prius, the other fleet car is the Ford Mondeo, with a fully-petrol engine)

  • Solar panels have been installed on the rooftops of most Simplympic Village apartments. This extra energy produced reduces the dependency of the city and the Simplympics venues on fossil fuels for electricity.

  • Environmentally-friendly infrastructure and programmes, such as the HDLR system and the rent-a-bike programme, help to encourage spectators, guests and even athletes to save the Earth by being environmentally friendly and avoiding wasteful internal-combustion engines.

Through all these measures and many other ones, Centreburg can make this Simlympics a much greener and envirnomentally-friendly one!
