Our top story tonight, Simlympics preparations continue across the city.
The scene earlier today, eastbound traffic on Ruewin Bridge early this morning as crews prepare the area for the Simlympic torch running. Ruewin Bridge, the area's biggest and quickest route to Signal Park, will be housing the torch and lighting ceremony.
Officials expect an estimated 40,000 people to either be on the bridge or along the route as the still undesignated torch runner makes their trip across the bridge on the final leg of the run. Sources with the committee have leaked that the runner may possibly be from one of the nations competing along with Windsor park's bid, and will be announced within the next week.
Area hotels and shops have now added more employees and increased their operating hours in hope of being able to keep up with the huge increase in tourists and for the upcoming holiday season.
Plaza Point, the crown jewel of shopping in the city, expects business to boom an estimated 97% over the next few weeks. Also, are hotels are expecting over 90% of their rooms to be occupied by the time the Simlympics begins.
With tourism expected to take place, Roadlink and Metro Transportation will be running educational bus routes and priority shuttles accross the city to help both athletes and visitors reach their destinations and fully take in the history of Windsor Park. Estimated cost for the educational bus tous is 25 cents per ride.
Officials have announce that they have finalized plans for the Simlympic torch, and will be constructing it in Signal Park.
Located across the street from the Signal Park Stadium, this torch is expected to be finished before the beginning of the Simlympics. Insiders with the design say that the artist is still unknown at this time.
The statue, estimated to cost approximately $250,000, is expected to be constructed by the end of the week.
Police and federal sercurity is expected to be increased across the city as holiday travel and the Simlympics draw nearer.
City officials has tightened security in many area due to an increase in threats against the city and the various venues across it. TSA has sannounced that it will be manually checking all baggage in the airport due to these threats, and ask that all passengers arrive approximately 2-3 hours before their flight to ensure their baggage travels with them.
Police will be performing random searches of all trains and vehicles entering the city, and will be asking that all visitors in stadiums to adhere to the strict rules being enforced during Simlympics events.
Arenas across the city are preparing for the events, including Interlink Arena.
Interlink Arena, expected to see the most foot traffic, will not only be housing several sporting competitions, but also will be housing nightly concerts by the various national pop singers.
Box office officials have stated that they will be selling tickets at an estimated $30 per person, and will be reserving front row seats for any athlete from that country.
Also making headline, Interlink today announced the corporate sponsors by showcasing them on the side of its world headquarters building.
The 30 foot LCD billboard, designed and installed by Innotech, will also show all events in realtime. Innotech expects to install another 45 across the city, and after the Simlympics, will be used for advertising space.
