Day 1 - Opening Ceremony of the 8th Simlympic Games in Ylmeria

George: Hello everyone, and a very warm Yassu* from the Capital of the Shalman Empire, the center of the known universe for these two weeks to come. I am George Karakis

(*Yassu (γειά σου) means “hello” in Greek.)

Anna: And I am Anna Stampoulidou and we will be your hosts for tonight’s grand opening of the Games of the XIIIth Simlympiad.

George: The Shalman Empire has prepared an amazing show for you, isn’t that right Anna?

Anna: It is – they say it will be the “grandest of all Simlympic Opening Ceremonies”. The world has very high expectations, and they won’t let the world down!

George: well here it is, the countdown has started!



Anna: What a nice way to start an opening ceremony!

George: Indeed Anna, and now a small girl is standing in the midst of the Simlympic Stadium. I wonder what they are up to…



Girl: Welcome World!



George: Wow, is this big enough for you? A small girl welcoming the world to her country. Brilliant!

Anna: Yes George, and the small fireworks are very nice too, are they not?

George: Yes, very beautiful. Now we welcome some dancers on the center of the Stadium.

Anna: Some beautiful dancing, wouldn’t you agree?

George: Yeah, awesome! It appears they have formed the Greek word for “Hi” in the middle of the Stadium! Just wonderful!

Anna: And now Celine Dion will sing “the Power of the Dream”, live here in Ylmeria, to mark the end of the Artistic part of the Ceremony…



Greek Voice: Κυρίες και κύριοι ο Πρόεδρος της Διεθνούς Σιμλυμπιακής Επιτροπής κύριος Σλάκερ και ο πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής για την Διοργάνωση των Σιμλυμπιακών Αγώνων της Υλμέρια, κύριος Άντον Βαν Χόφνεερ!

English Voice: Ladies and gentlemen the President of the International Simlympic Committee mister Slacker and the President of the Organizing Committee for the Ylmeria Simlympic Games, mister Anton Van Hofneer!

George: Mr Slacker was the first to think of the idea of the Simlympics, and the Empire is honored to have him here tonight. Mr. Van Hofneer on the other hand is the person who made this all happen. In a time when the Empire is in a crisis he was able to organize this grand event on behalf of the Shalman Empire here, on Andromeda.

Greek Voice: Κυρίες και κύριοι, η αυτού εξοχώτης, ο Προθυπουργός της Τρίτης Σαλμανιανής Αυτοκρατορίας.
English Voice: Ladies and Gentlemen, his excellency, the Prime Minister of the Third Shalman Empire.

Anna: You can hear the Imperial Band of the Shalman Imperial Navy playing a march, as the Prime Minister of the Empire walks to meet Mr. Slacker and Mr. Van Hofneer in the middle of the Stadium.



George: The Prime Minister came to power over a year ago, with the so-called “Revolution”, overthrowing the already existing, elected government of the Shalman Empire.

Anna: Yes, and as we can now see, fifty kids, one from each one of the fifty provinces of the Shalman Empire, carry the Shalman Imperial Flag in the stadium, walking towards the three gentlemen who are standing next to the flagpole.



Greek Voice: Κυρίες και κύριοι, ο Ύμνος στην Μεγαλειώτητά του, ο εθνικός ύμνος της Τρίτης Σαλμανιανής Αυτοκρατορίας.

English Voice: Ladies and Gentlemen, the Hymn to his Majesty, National Anthem of the Third Shalman Empire.







George: And that was the National Anthem of the Shalman Empire. A beautiful anthem, very grand, wouldn’t you agree?

Anna: Indeed George, very Empire-like! Αnd now we will hear the anthem of New Rhodesia, the host-nation of the First Simlympic Games.

Greek voice: Κυρίες και κύριοι, ο εθνικός ύμνος της Νέας Ρωδησίας.

English voice: Ladies and Gentlemen, the national anthem of New Rhodesia.





Anna: wow, really cool fireworks, eh George?

George: yeah, they sure are! And this was the first time a nation pays tribute to the first host of the Games, New Rhodesia!

Anna: yes, very innovative! And now the Emperor of the Shalman Empire will declare the games of the 8th Simlympiad open.

Emperor: Κυρήττω την έναρξη των Αγώνων της 8ης Σιμλυμπιάδας που θα διεξαχθεί στην πρωτεύουσα της Αυτοκρατορίας, την Υλμέρια!*

(*”I declare the opening of the Games of the 8th Simlympiad which will take place in the capital of the Empire, Ylmeria!)




George: Very impressive fireworks! The crowd is cheering so loud!

Anna: Yep, the atmosphere here is just amazing, and we’re not even half way through!

Greek Voice: Κυρίες και κύριοι, η στιγμή που όλοι περιμέναμε! Οι αθλητές του κόσμου!

English Voice: Ladies and gentlemen, the moment we have all been waiting for! The Athletes of the World!

George: as we can see, New Rhodesia is the first nation in line, and the Shalman Empire will be the last one.

George: And now the President of the Organizing Committee for the Ylmeria 2008 games will make a speech at the center of the Simlympic Stadium…

Welcome! Athletes of the World, spectators, welcome to the Games of the 8th Simlympiad in Ylmeria! For the period of four years we have built state-of-the-art stadiums for you, we have prepaired the most impressive opening we could, and we have opened our arms for you. Pierre de Coubertin once said that “The most important thing in life is not to Triumph but to Compete”. This is what we want from you, to compete, without discrimination. You are the center of our Games, athletes of the world!

For the first time, the Shalman Empire has the honour of hosting the Simlympic Games. We hope that you will be impressed, moved and inspired watching the best athletes of the World give their best here, in Ylmeria. We will fire the world’s imagination. Last night, the Simlympic Flame lit in Novland. Tonight, it will light here, in the Simlympic Stadium, where it will stay for sixteen days.

We have waited for this moment for years. Let us now celebrate with the world. Simlympic Games, Welcome to the Shalman Empire!

And now, I present to you the President of the International Simlympic Committee, mister Slacker.

Thank you for inviting me to be here tonight during the Opening Ceremony of the Eighth Simlympiad, hosted by the beautiful city of Ylmeria.

I'd like to firstly thank the city officials and the residents for working tireless these last few months to ensure that the city, it's venues and it's infrastructure are ready for the games; and I'd like to congratulate you on achieving this task. Yesterday I was given in a sneak peak of the venues (Being President of the ISC does have some advantages Wink), and the variety, design and planning on show is off the highest caliber.

Now, I wish every single Athlete - whether they're from Petrova or Paranor Island, Shalman or the Simrepublic of Italy, Arranossa or Æscgeard or any of the many other competing nations we've had the pleasure of seeing tonight - the greatest luck and best wishes for the next two weeks of competition. I hope that you keep the follwoing words with you throughout the games and for the rest of your sporting life:

"The most important thing in the Simlympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

But tonight, we are celebrating a triumph; the triumph that is the Simlympic games. The ability for nations from all over the SimWorld to come together as one in the name of sport, whether they place their allegiance to a union or to their location; boundaries or ideologies do not matter on the field of sport, they do not restrict the joy it brings to millions around the world.

And on that note, let us light the Simlympic torch; the beacon of hope, peace and prosperity.

That was fantastic . Videos were amazing, especially the lighting of the torch . Pictures look beautiful, great job with the fireworks . Cool idea to use New Rhodesia's anthem and flag, 6U will approve .

Really really awesome opening ceremony Mike. The work hosts put into the games continues to amaze me, and this is no exception. Thank you and I cannot wait for the rest of the games .

I remember mitsos posted the results in the last Simlympics. Slacker gave him the information about the medalists. That's why I ask you

he said he'd post the results in a secret section and then i edit them with pics. I dunno I'll ask him, i have no prob posting them myself!
