Beijing Olympics
From all this Simlympic talking it got me thinking, who would be the top 10 in the medal tally this year?

Re: Beijing Olympics
I think you're pretty accurate with your guestimation there. Although perhaps, you've over-estimated Australia's medal count

Re: Beijing Olympics
lol they invented Fireworks, what did we expect? Them to go easy on the pyrotechnics??? lol
Boxing team for the US having problems only 8 boxers one didnt make weight, but the first one won in his bout at 2:15 this morning EST... I was up!
So far a relativly unexciting games, but yet.... its day one! Nigera and Germany was a great game for womens football I passed out at half time what was the score for that? USA women beat Japan... but that happened before the games so I knew that was going to happen. And Im watching North Korea and Brasil, which is kinda weird for me, as an American I think North Korea is bad.... but as an Italian for football fan Brazil is the big bad empire... fun to watch because I havnt a dam clue who to route for... go N. Korea... go Brazill...?????

Re: Beijing Olympics
Melbourne you have forgotten Italy 4 years ago in Athens we were at the sixth place in the medagliere (how is it called in English?) even if I think that this year we won't do better....however never say never....
The ceremony has been spectacular indeed, in my opinion the initial part with the countdown has been the best one, also the fireworks that represented footsteps walking from the city to the stadium are a great idea. The piece devoted to the press was spectacular, even if for the rest I expected more looking at the premises, for instance the lighting of the caludron I have found it a little slow, I expected for something more rapid and of strong emotional impact as Cassius Clay did in Atlanta'96 or scenografic as in Sidney200o

Cause the IOC only recognizes French, English and the host countrys language so when they win or announce anything they say it in Chinese, English and then in French depending on the team(s)

LMAO! Thats what i thought to! and then they were showing in the crowds spectators cheering for N Korea.... Which i thought was VERY weird since NON of N Korea's citizen's are allowed to leave the country... so how could they be there rooting for them... VERY STRANGE!
U.S.A. leading the pack on day 2 with 8 medals and 2 golds with China trailing with a total of 4 medals but with 3 golds...and S Korea in 3rd with a total of 3
Re: Beijing Olympics
Phelps ties Mark Spitz record tonight wwith his 7th straight gold and I can't think of a nicer guy for it to happen to.I got a chance to meet him once in downtown Ann Arbor he was eating at a local Chinese Resturant and was one of the nicest guys I've ever met and recomended what was good at that resturant so that was a bonus
Re: Beijing Olympics
Australia came so close to defeating the American 4x100 medley.
Australia is going incredibly bad these Olympics. Of the 6 male golds of track cycling didn't even get a medal in one! Prepare to see us fall down the rankings.
Come on London!

Re: Beijing Olympics
Does anyone else think that the female Chinese gymnasts look younger than 16? They look like they are 13 or 14

Re: Beijing Olympics
I'm in full agreement on both accounts. the Chinese gymnasts do look too young. Also, Australia is doing phenomenly bad.

Re: Beijing Olympics
There's been some speculation that some of the chinese gymnasts are actually 14 and the Chinese government faked their passports.

And let me be the first to say, go Team GB! 3rd place, wooo... so amazing. Our aim was to come 4th by 2012 which is at home, so if we manage to finish 3rd it'll be incredible.

Re: Beijing Olympics
lol yeah It's all over the news here that and the suspect scoring in alot of events
I was watching Karate yesterday and SWE won 2-0 even thogh CAN landed a bow to the head(2pts),3 shots to the chest(1 point each) and then don't even get me started on the way boxing is scored
as to the gymnastis scoring I like how some one can have 3 mistakes and doesn't get any deductions meanwhile someone does a great job and gets a low score??????

haha you mean like the Australian judge supposedly did to Nastia Lukin? The judge in question didnt give the her the lowest mark. It has become somewhat of a joke in the media

Re: Beijing Olympics
Just noticed something: all the big american news websites: AOL, MSNBC etc are sorting the medal table by total number of medals so that America leads whereas the official way of sorting is to sort by number of golds. Guess it hurts to find out you're no longer the greatest sporting country .
