OFFICIAL BID Elizabeth - It's Time
The Elizabeth State Government has finally given the green light for an Olympic bid to be registered. Planning has been fast tracked, with all major Olympic proposals taken out of local council hands and given Major Development Status.
Major works are underway; a major cross-region subway system has been established, and the massively underutilised, decommissioned heavy rail service has been put back in service with major station upgrades.
Three major International Airports are under construction, with cross-city non-tolled Freeway links to Olympic facilities. A major resort, casino and beach precinct is being constructed in what used to be the regions rust belt Oceanside heavy industry precinct. Freight rail links have been converted to elevated rail with massive subway connections.
Industry was once the regions chief employer, yet today, the tourism, recreation and commercial employment areas are up and coming.
Once a Soviet bloc country, it is evident that the region has been under heavy Western Influence over the past 10 years. Nuclear Power has been decommissioned across the region, and Geothermal and Solar Power has been established. Massive Fusion Power Plants are being built to ensure that there are no power outages during the Simlympics, if won. Massive schemes are underway to improve water and air quality; public transport is being heavily promoted. With a Simoleon rich treasury, this region is ready to roll. Still not a 100% democratic state, pictures of the region have somehow not yet been able to make their way onto this site, yet within days, there should be an official state media release. Elizabeth. It's time.

First pictures to be leaked! I don't think these have state approval, so they may be withdrawn, but from the heart of this ex-Soviet, pro-Western state has come pictures of Infrastructure! There is no way camera crews can get to the Major sites yet - the ones who have tried have..... disappeared.....
The above is a picture of the new Elizabeth Lower Lakes Regions Domestic Airport; believe it or not, this airport has been built especially just to bring in cheap labour from other locer-socio economic states!
New country land estates are springing up along new freeway routes; this one, we are led to believe, is a state housing project, to help relocate existing slums out of the cities and into outreaching areas where Simlympic officials will not visit.
Above is what will soon be a common sight in all areas of the state; massive new rail stations, bringing in people from all areas. Oh, by the way - the state has decided by 25-2 vote (the two opposing have not been seen since the meeting) that all rail and road lines to "dead zones" will be closed.... we're not quite sure what this means, but we assume that the Government does not wish for Simlympic officials or tourists to visit "bad/negative area" of the state. Stay tuned!

Convention Centre Conversion and Softball / Baseball Facility Upgrades
Quick Real Life Note : Having difficulty keeping up with this, I'm in my final year of secondary school and got exams coming up, so I'll updating only when I can. If I don't make this Simlympics, I'll be well and truly ready for the next one. And my downloads have been thottled; I'm downloading as many plugins as I can to build a truly realistic Simlympic Park; you'll have to wait a few weeks for this one.

International Pressure is mounting on Elizabeth to ease concerns that censorship will not be an issue throughout the games if won. Photography at major construction sites across the city has been prohibited; satellite images, however, have been released showing the progress of what seems to be an upgrade and conversion of some existing facilities. The world famous Elizabeth Softball Stadium has been upgraded, and the city convention centre converted to an Simlympic Aquatic Training Centre. A construction worker has stated on conditions of anonymity that this is the 'smallest stage of the total bid' and has cost 'approximately €65,000,000.' 'We have been working like slaves, the officials have stated that if the total bid is not ready in two months, they (will) take our families away from us including my dog which I (am) very upset about.' Meanwhile, bordering nation of Simpoland has released increasing refugee figures, with approximately 35,000 Sims entering the country each day. Government official John Wilkinson has stated that "these people seem depressed and financially depleted." The Elizabeth state agency has said that these people 'are moving on their own accord and are not being forced out of the country, politically, socially or economically.' The USN (The United Sim Nations) has said that they will be applying for permits for their officials to enter the country and inspect 'some official sites.'

Planning Stages
An overall regional plan has been drawn up and released exclusively to CNN News; also, a few local plans have been released, including that for a lakeside aquatic park and a hotel / commerical centre at an existing International Airport.
[img][/img]
Above are the preliminary plans for a commerical and accomodation centre at the Kolsch International Airport (Note - Yes, It is a Maxis Airport, yet I have tried to place it in a semi-realistic manner, I am spending a lot of time designing from a scratch another International Airport and Commerical Centre on the southside of the city, as you will soon see).
[img][/img]
Above is an example of planning for a Golf Course and a mixed housing - commerical development; this will be a draft example as to what can be soon used throughout the region.
[img][/img]
The planned starting point for the bike races; the bike races will not go through city areas, as we feel it is best that the riders and the tourists alike get a chance to breath in clean, country air.
[img][/img]
The planned location for the aquatic and water sports centre; major commerical and residential development will soon follow.
[img][/img]
And finally, the Elizabeth regional plan. The sea is situated to the South, with the soon to be re-developed rustbelt Industry regions.

Paranoid Stance by Elizabeth
The Elizabeth Government has decided that they will only be releasing the plans and construction images of the Simlympic Park once a short-list of four cities has been decided by the Simlympic Committee. 'This ensures that rogue states such as our neighbour, Simoland, are unable to make a corresponding bid that could resemble ours in anyway. We have the world's best architects and urban planners working to build a world class park, and we do not want their designs ripped off by those in other countries' stated the President's Official spokesman - 'however, we will be releasing the draft plans for the park, and images of progress in other areas of the state, as is shown is the previously posted Eliz08 Draft Regional Plan' This announcement has brought criticism from neighbouring countries, some of whom believe that this censorship will carry into the games if won. 'So, if another team other than the Elizabeth team wins a metal, does this mean that pictures and information will not be released? Because it would be seen as damaging to the states's reputation?' came from the Minister of Sport and Recreation for the country of SimRussia. CNN is asking for people to comment on what they feel about this stance being taken by the People's Republic of Elizabeth.

Re: OFFICIAL BID Elizabeth - It's Time
one problem with that Idea we don't release a short list of canditie cities whenyou bid for a certain games it's all in
Re: OFFICIAL BID Elizabeth - It's Time
I think it's difficult for someone to make a bid that somehow does not resemble your.... in the end the venues you can download are not so many, and the ability to manage a bid is not only in creating a Simlympic park and fill it whit stadiums, but is also in the city' potential, place of interest, infrastructure, connection etc. ...
I believe too that with 12 applicant cities all seems to be a bit dispersive, but if you look a few of them are candidates for 2009, some have stated that it may not be able to prepare everything for November,
then the list will shrink.
The advice I can give you is to create your bid doing the best job possible, without worring about what the other do, also because your bid started really well.

Construction on Portland Begins
The Elizabeth State Government has begun construction on the satellite city of Portland. This city will eventually be home to 150,000 people. Foreign Investment has been permitted, with Delfin Lend Lease, a major Simstralian Land Development Company working on urban design and construction. A Dual Airport is being constructed, with Domestic and International Terminals. Subway and Heavy Rail links will connect with all areas of the city and the capital. Major Freeway's are under construction and more are further proposed across the region. This new satellite city is essential for the upgrading of infrastructure across the region for the Simlympics. Construction has also begun on Simlympic Park; pictures will be released soon. Portland will be a model city that all further residential and commercial developments across the region will be based upon. Neither Manufacturing nor Heavy Industry is permitted; with special "UltraTech Zones" set up in strategic areas. Corridors are being preserved for future road and rail expansion (see regional plan).

Re: OFFICIAL BID Elizabeth - It's Time
Ya know, I like the idea of planning for the Simlympics. I find it far more realistic than seeing all the Stadiums built before the host is selected. Of course, existing venues would have to be shown and extensive plans would have to be showcased. You could also show architectural designs of the stadiums, which would show us what stadiums you intend to use. Lots of possibilities, but it's up to you.
Portland is looking fantastic too, the futuristic stations by the terminal are really funky. I'd suggest maybe using custom airports though, as they look a bit nicer. Looking forward to watching the city develop .

Re: OFFICIAL BID Elizabeth - It's Time
Hey Slacker, thanks for your comments. I'd love to do Custom airports, but that was kind of my last priority - I know this is all about realism, but the airports are functional, and I have tried to add little extras like signs, billboards, the transport hubs etc. I am never going to finish Simlympic Park otherwise - I plan everything I do in an art binder before I place it on screen, so I can see how things will pan out. And you probably won't like Portland that much, it is primarily low density residential with a few medium density residential zones around transit zones. I don't believe in a whole bloody city planned and built to the max with skyscrapers, it doesn't happen here in Australia, and it won't happen on the game also, thank you for liking how I'm designing things. I'm completing Year Twelve at the moment, and next year will be going to university to study Urban and Regional Planning. This city is also a dual project - I'm bidding for the Simlympics, but in a subject called 'Extension Studies' I have to do a major study on my home town's public transportation system (the student picks a study of his/her choice and writes a major thesis/report on it). I'm showcasing some real life ideas on a game to show how they'd work in sim city life (or as good as Maxis, EA Games and mods let it work!) This is the only reason I can find anytime to complete this thing, mainly cause it HAS to be done! Haha

Re: OFFICIAL BID Elizabeth - It's Time
Fair enough, can't say I blame you - it takes ages to make a custom airport. I'd much rather see Simlympic stuff anyway .
I'm not that bothered about skyscrapers, so chances are I'll like Portland. The only cities in the UK which have skyscrapers are the huge ones, like London or Manchester, and even they don't have that many.
The study in public transportation sounds really interesting, it's something which I like too. Whenever I go to a new city I love to find out about it's transport system . Good luck!

Re: OFFICIAL BID Elizabeth - It's Time
Just while I am finishing Year Twelve and completing my Complete Final Bid, I thought I'd show off some of my planning skills. Below is a picture of a new suburb in my city, which will be home to the National Sport of Horse Racing; this facility has not yet been constructed though:
[img][/img]
Below is the neighbouring village of Tea Tree Gully:
[img][/img]
Below is the start of major new sporting facilities. The state has decided to redevelop old city areas rather than building a new site from scratch on greenfield sites:
[img][/img]
And Below is overhead:
[img][/img]
I know what you see at the moment isn't great, but I'm planning and working on it!

Re: OFFICIAL BID Elizabeth - It's Time
I really like the tree lined road in the first picture, the way it intersects the town and then splits creates a great effect.
I also like Elizabeth's plan to redevelop old sites rather than just build new ones, it'd be cool to watch those develop.
Great update .
