Elizabeth - 16th ISC Session Bid Rvc12
Elizabeth - 16th ISC Session Bid Klh11

If chosen, the Rosa Vandenberg Center will be the venue that will host the 16th ISC Session. The Center is centrally located in the city, being situated on the edge of the King Leopold Harbour, the focal point of the city. This will be seen in the next update, with a full rundown
of the bid...

[UPDATE] - The city of Elizabeth is the capital of the of the Federal District of Exmouth and the capital of the nation of Victoria. After a long period of languishing in industrial squalor the city had a major boom during the 1880s which saw its population swell from 25,000 people to its present day population in the of 601,326 people. During the early years of this boom the city, being situated on a natural harbour began to develop on the western edge. As the city grew, the older buildings were gradually replaced by larger hotels along the harbour-front, with the most elegant and grand being the Grand Hotel, the Royal Symerian and the Hercog. During the period from 1880-1910 the commerical district boomed and a plethora of fine examples of architecture from this period were built. Luckily, the planning authorities had the early idea to try to protect as many of these as possible, as is now evident in the almost total lack of newer buildings.

There is now a healthy mix of architecture from the Vandenberg Hotel (1922) to the Myer Building (2005) on the harbour front. With the growing size of the city it soon outpaced in growth, number of jobs and population the nearby by cities of Hetherton and South Kensington to become the economic powerhouse of the region and the country. With this came extreme wealth and led to the construction of the promenade around the harbour and the coastline of the city. It also allowed the city to develop a world class transit network with the aim of reducing the number of trips taken by vehicles by 50% by 2020. The ferry network also flourish as it provided a quick and reliable way for people to commute to the CBD(the commerical area around King Leopold Harbour) by bypassing the congestion of the inner city.

But with this rapidly expanding population came the growth of the freeway system which buried itself into the fabric of the city. Measures are now underway to diminsh the reliance on it with the eventual aim of turning the freeways into stretches of parkland. To help this process a new monorail system is being planned along with an expansion of the subway, ferry and bus networks.

The city of Elizabeth is now also pouring money into the development of social infrastructure such as parkland and sporting facilities which were mostly ignored during the boom of the 1880s. This development of facilities is also aimed at creating world class facilities to launch a bid for a summer Simlympic Games. But before this is done, the city is going to test the waters by bidding for the 16th ISC Session to see whether the city is ready and able to cope with a major event and publicity

Elizabeth - 16th ISC Session Bid Vcp10

Here we have a a zoomed out view of King Leopold Harbour where we can see the majority of the CBD(Central Business District), the Rosa Vandenberg Center and the Victoria Simlympic Park. The Park is underconstruction in anticipation of bidding for the next summer edition of the Simlympic Games. Currently the Main Stadium and the two smaller indoor ones have been built but the landscaping and construction of the seawall are still far from completion. However, the city of Elizabeth believes that by reclaiming the land for the Park from industry they have been able to create something very unique by having the Main Stadium and Park so close to the centre of the city. The other major sport hub is on an island just off the coast of the city which will play host to the tennis, swimming and soccer venues.
