Re: First African Olympic Games
For South Africa alot depends on how South Africa handles the World Cup when it's there in 2010. As to Egypt I think the Games would be intresting there just the political problems. The others not sure if the Infrastructre is there really for a games.

Re: First African Olympic Games
well i would love the olympics to come back to Australia. but they will not be in Sydney for a very long time. Sydney had a decline in toursim after the event and would be hesitant is spending up big again.
Melbourne is confirmed to be bidding for 2024 and 2028 with Brisbane considering 2028 or later. So they will be back soon.
Australia is also bidding for the 2018 World Cup with Melbourne trying to become the main host over Sydney

Re: First African Olympic Games
I think South Africa will be the first African nation to host the Olympics, but I also think the next geographic "breakthrough" will be the first South American games in either Rio de Janerio, Sao Paulo or Buenos Aires.

Re: First African Olympic Games
It all depends on Rio. A rio win, and no African games till 2028/2032. A Chicago win, then its going eithier to Rio or South Africa. A Tokyo or Mardrid win, no chance till likely 2024 or 2028, as Toronto or the States would be hosting 2020, and Paris is a super contender for 2024 (there 100th anniversary since hosting there last games). A Chicago win, then we are defintely looking at eithier a Rio or South African win. South Africa is hosting the 2011 IOC Session to decide the winner for the 2018 games, those are in Durban. Its felt that South Africa's only chance is if they put Capetown forward, hence Capetown will likely be hosting the games in 2020 if the cards fall in place correctly with a good showing at the 2010 World Cup.
Re: First African Olympic Games
Kenya might be able to throw up a hail marry but I don't think it would be likely I agree with everyone else though. If any country were to host other than South Africa Kenya would be the only chance.

Re: First African Olympic Games
If South Africa can host the 2010 FIFA World Cup, I think they can host the olympics some day
