Yorke 2010 - Dare to Dream
YORKE 2010 - Official bid for the Games of the XII Simlympiad
Message from the President
Greetings,
On behalf of the Republic of Arcacia, I would like to present the officialbid for the Games of the XII Simlympiad, to be held in the City of Yorke,in the District of Yorke Bay.
Arcacia has a long and proud sporting tradition, stretching back to our earliest days, when cricket and soccer were played on the fertile fields of Providence and Redding, with a yearly soccer match taking place in Yorke between the British and French Settlers. It is this tradition of sport that has seen Arcacia develop as a peaceful nation, choosing sport over war - diplomacy over attack.
In the following pages, you will be presented with the many reasons why Yorke is a sound choice as host for the Games of the XII Simlympiad. It is my sincerest of hopes that the world finds in Arcacia the warm welcome and friendship we are so eager to extend.
Yours sincerely,
Daniel Raffaele
President of the Republic of Arcacia
Welcome to Arcacia
Located in the Coral Sea, just off the East coast of Australia, the Republic of Arcacia is home to just under 250,000 people and prides itself on being one of the oldest continuing democracies in the world.
Arcacia was settled simultaneously by the British in the East and the French in the West. When the two met, rather than war over who owned the newly discovered paradise, the decided to establish a new nation, based on peace and the rights of humanity.
And so it was that in the Winter of 1811, the Republic of Arcacia was established.
Blessed with fertile volcanic soil, Arcacia has grown and its wealth increased. Massive gold reserves have seen Arcacia untouched by either the Great Depression or the recent Global Financial Crisis.
Welcome to Arcacia.
Yorke - Candidate City
Arcacia’s second largest city with a population of around 40,000 - Yorke is the capital of the District of Yorke Bay which is known as Arcacia’s Breadbasket due to it being the centre of the country’s agriculture.
Founded in 1811, Yorke is also home to the Arcacian Space Agency who have a major observatory in Middle Range and a launch facility in Cape Cooley.
Yorke is a charming city, compact and neat. Despite it’s size, one would be forgiven for thinking one was standing in a much larger city. This is a common phenomenon in Arcacian cities.
The City of Yorke, also known as the Heart of Arcacia is conveniently situated in the centre of the country and most locales elsewhere in Arcacia are equidistant to Yorke.

Essential Criteria - Torch Relay
The Torch Relay will cover as much territory as possible, visiting as many nations as possible. Once in Arcacia, it will travel through every town in every district, lighting mini-cauldrons on its way to Yorke. The final leg of the Torch Relay will see it enter Stadium Arcacia at the conclusion of the Opening Ceremony, where it will light the main Cauldron. The method of lighting the Cauldron will not be revealed ahead of time, nor will the identity of the person honoured with the task.

Just off Civic Square, the Hyatt is a popular choice.
The Palm Plaza is Yorke's largest hotel. In the heart of downtown, it provides accommodation for those on a budget, as well as those who demand superior service.
Arcacia's largest hotel, the Heywood Inn, located in Redding City has everything from cheap single rooms to exclusive penthouse suites.

Essential Criteria - Transport
For its size, Arcacia boasts one of the best public transport systems in the world. Five airports service Arcacia, three regional airports located in Yorke, Brooklyn and Broadalbin connect Arcacia to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. Two major international airports located in Providence and Redding City connect Arcacia with Europe, The Americas, Asia and Africa. Arcacian Airlines is Arcacia’s national carrier. All airports are accessible by free public transport.
Two publicly owned companies operate free public transport in Arcacia. The Arcacian National Railway operates the railway, ferry and intercity bus services.
Transport within cities is handled by MetroCorp who run the subway, light rail and bus services in Providence, Broadalbin, Lytehope, Yorke, Cape Cooley, Hastings, Redding and Brooklyn. Private bus companies operate elsewhere, but are still free as their operations are subsidised by Government.

Essential Criteria - Security
Essential Criteria - Security
Arcacia is a notoriously safe country and our commitment to a safe Games is paramount. In order to achieve this, Arcacia's two security forces will work together to ensure the safety of athletes, officials and visitors.
The Arcacia Police will be primarily responsible for security at sporting venues, live sites and other events surrounding the Simlympic Festival.
The Arcacian Coast Guard is in charge of border security and will ensure that Arcacia remains a safe environment throughout the Games.

Thousands of ordinary men and women have volunteered to help with the logistics of the Games. From customer service, marshalls and drivers to liaisons and cultural ambassadors, the Games simply could not happen without the help of ordinary Arcacians, inspired by the Simlympic spirit.

Attractions in the Northern Islands
The Jewels of the Sea is an apt name for the Northern Islands. Comprising of four islands - Brooklyn, Paradise, Tasman and Amblin - Arcacia’s smallest district provides an ideal contrast to the fast pace of the mainland. The capital, Brooklyn, hugs a beautiful cove and serves as the hub of the Island Ferry service which links the islands to Hastings in Yorke Bay and Lytehope in Providence.

The Winter Wonderland that is Saint Vincent is an external territory of Arcacia located in the Saint Vincent Fracture Zone of the Southern Ocean, roughly half way between Tasmania and Antarctica. The sub-Antarctic climate means that Saint Vincent enjoys a perpetual Winter, with temperatures in Summer rarely climbing above 4°C, and in Winter it rarely gets below -2°C. This narrow temperature range not only makes skiing possible year round, it also means that the Winter is not so severe as to be unbearable.
