Re: Alameda 2oo8
Presentation (1/5)
Alameda is back as a Candidate City to host the 2008 Simlympic and Parasimlympic Games, just three months after narrowly missing out on being designated the host city in the previous bidding process.
Moreover, it is back and convinced that, on this occasion, it will be capable of realising this dream shared by all people living in Alameda and Italy, as well as enjoying the many positive effects and new opportunities that the Simlympic and Parasimlympic Games is going to bring to the city.
There are two months of intense work ahead until the final decision, which will be made on October 31st. The Alameda 2008 Simlympic bid will attempt to show the world that Alameda is the best possible place for hosting the biggest sporting event on the planet because of, amongst other reasons, its proven organisational capability, its passion for sport and the fantastic hospitality its citizens will give to all those people who decide to visit us during the next winter.
Why Alameda?
- Love every moment in Alameda. Our motivation to host the Games is rooted firmly in the belief that the values of Simlympism can and should be the catalyst to promote social cohesion and evolution. These core values, with their focus on sport, will be the model for developing: our city our people, our society and our everyday lives.
- Bringing the values of sport and Simlympism to the people. We are bringing the values of sport and Simlympism into the lives of all of our people. The Games will bring about ‘social regeneration’, supported and enhanced by us continuing to improve the infrastructure of our city.
- Diversity as a basic value. Alameda is a city in which citizens of more than 190 nationalities live in perfect harmony. Our city has historically been a meeting point, where everybody is received with hospitality and joy.
- Internationalisation of the city. The Simlympic and Parasimlympic Games are the biggest sporting event on the planet. When they are being held, the eyes of the world are fixed on the city hosting them. That is why we believe the Games would be a decisive step forward for Alameda, proposing our city as a leading international metropolis.
- City legacy. Apart from the tangible legacy of new infrastructure and economic benefits from the celebration of an Simlympic and Parasimlympic Games in the host city, we want Alameda to become an even more friendlier and welcoming city with a better quality of life in which people feel integrated in both a physical and human environment through sport.

Re: Alameda 2oo8
Concept (2/5)
Our concept provides the city with new and existing infrastructure to open it up to the people.
This physical concept complements our overall concept and motivation for a ‘people focused’ Games with social regeneration a top priority.
Our intention is that the Simlympic infrastructure will contribute to the regeneration of a sustainable urban environment.
Our concept delivers in two a reas of the city: the Main Simlympic Park; the ‘heart’ of the Games and the Park2; the ‘lungs’ of the Games.
The Main Park in the south coast of the city includes the main Simlympic competition venues. The Park2 in the north of the city is the location
for a long-term regeneration project to recover green spaces and reclaim the parks, valleys and mountains for the use of everyone;
for families and for those of all ages.
Main Simlympic Park
Park2
Legacy
Our legacy strategy will have a clear focus on post-Olympic use and the creation of long term sustainable benefits. We are developing detailed plans for all our
Olympic infrastructure, both in 'event mode' and in 'legacy mode'. These plans will ensure that every venue, whether permanent, temporary or relocatable, will
have the appropriate technical specification, programme of use, management and business plan. Some of the proposed legacies include:
· New sports facilities for elite and recreational use to enhance sports performance and participation.
· Social and education programmes that build on the inspiration and celebration of the Games.
· Urban regeneration of deprived areas, providing enhanced green and recreational spaces.
· Designation of accommodation from both the Simlympic and Media Villages for social housing or for relocation to deprived areas.

Enjoy Alameda (4/5)
Demographic Aspects
The city of Alameda is divided into 21 districts with a total area of 60,430.760 hectares and has a population of 2,341,236 people. Alameda is a welcoming city, a true meeting point between different cultures which is home to over 180 nationalities. Large numbers of immigrants have settled in the city and its surrounding area in recent years to capitalise on a wide range of work opportunities.
Economic Aspects
Alameda's economic activity, which has continuously grown over the last few years, is characterised by its specialisation in service activities, especially those provided for companies, financial intermediation, logistics and communications. Tourism, which encompasses all branches of production activities, has especial relevance in the city and has grown significantly in recent years, particularly in business and trade fair-related activities.
Transports
Alameda also has modern transport infrastructures that have been significantly expanded and improved during the past decade. In 2008, the public transport system in the region was used by 1,623,000,000 people. The Metro network has 6 lines, and is 198 km in length, making it the longest in Italy.
At the moment, Alameda's transport system has 318 stations, one of them next to the Simlympic Stadium and all adapted to people with reduced mobility.
Alameda also has an extensive and efficient bus network. According to September 2008 data, the ATM (regional transport company) has a fleet of 2,007 buses covering a total of 209 routes (169 for the daytime network, 38 night buses and 2 special services). To this you have to add the new night transport network, the Metrobus, which covers on the streets the same routes as the Metro and is serviced by 83 vehicles.
There is also an extensive suburban train network in the region which, had 12 lines in operation and was 339.1 km in length.
Alameda is also connected to Italy’s main cities by a great high speed rail system which provides passengers with fast rail services at speeds of over 300 Km/h.
The different modes of transport are linked by transportation hubs located across the city, providing passengers with options for efficient interchange with other
forms of transport.
Accomodation
Italy is the most popular destination in the world for travellers and more than 60 million tourists visit the country every year, with eight million choosing to stay in Alameda. Visitors enjoy the best conditions of quality and comfort and experience the hospitality and service that distinguishes the Italian hotel industry. The city has an outstanding range of hotels and sufficient capacity to guarantee the accommodation needs of all the Simlympic and Parasimlympic Family.
Alameda’s transformation and development as a City has been accompanied by a growth in the number of hotels and hotel rooms. There are currently more than 65,000 rooms in establishments of different categories. This includes 5/4/3 star hotels as well as hostels, bed & breakfasts, guest houses and other types such as
university residences.
Culture & Laisure
The city of Alameda has a broad cultural offer for all tastes: internationally renowned museums, numerous art galleries and exhibitions, the best national plays and most successful international musicals, marvellous opera and classical music performances, all types of music concerts. Everything is possible.
Art lovers will feel like they are in paradise when visiting world-famous collections at the Galleria Sabauda, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna or the
Museo del Design e delle Arti Applicate, the most well-known among a total of 320 museums and art galleries. Those who prefer theatre will only have to head to the centre of Alameda, to see the broad range of shows and musicals the capital has to offer.
Alameda also has a lot of variety for music lovers. The Royal Theatre, National Auditorium, The Alameda Opera Theatre are a must for fans of opera, classical and modern music.
But there are also numerous places for listening to other types of music. Re: Alameda 2oo8
Wow very nice presentation dude.the logos are amazing. I like especially the night view of Italy and Alameda and the simlympic complex is really awesome. The choice of the stadiums is correct and fits to the style of the city. This brad new area in Alameda gives a glamorous touristic sense and the cruise port is very cool. Good work indeed mate. Good luck to Alameda.
