Portage Des Sioux Iowa

Labor Day weekend is now over which means that so is the Labor Day Hockey Tournament. The tournament consists of six local High School teams copeteing to be first place. This year some great teams competed, including two schools with possibly the biggest High School Rivalry in the metro area. The teams included: Evergreen West Warriors, Evergreen East Trailblazers, Melfort Mustangs, St. Thomas Wildcats, South Portage High Gunners, Central Valley Colts. The teams play a best of three series, until down to the final two teams. The logos are shown below along with the first matchups of the tournaments:


The Evergreen West Warriors who have won the PDSHSHA (Portage Des Sioux High School Hockey Association) championship the last two years made it to the finals, but were defeated by the Melfort Mustangs by a score of 5-3.

Portage Des Sioux being an American city has honored all who died in the 9/11 tragedy. Alll local schools had a day off, and the Mayor gave a speech which was aired on SKLZ news channel 7 wwhich is the local news.

Wierd, PDS gets a day off and they are in Iowa while I am in DC and I don't even remember hearing anything about it today

Just what you guys have been waitng for, another update about sports.
The University of Eastern Iowa or UIE has been looking into changes leagues for its mens and womens ice hockey teams. Currently all UIE sports teams play in D1 NCAA divisions, and this will be the first change in leagues for any of the university's teams. After being last place in ice hockey for 3 years in a row the UIE Fighting Frogs mens hockey team looks to enter the SCAA hockey league. The UIE Fighting Frogs will continue playing thier home games at the University Ice Arena on campus. Below are pictures:

Great updates!

Portage Des Sioux is now preparing for another great lacrosse season from the Thunder this year. Exhibition games start December 1st when the Thunder travel to Renault to play the Riverhawks and they are supposed to take on thier long time rivals the Laval Citadels at home for thier regular season home opener on January 2nd.

Tickets for the home opener against Laval in January has already been sold out rival game. The history of the rivalry goes back to when the Thunder and Citadels played each other in the STLL Championship and Laval won because of a bad call by the referee. And the rivalry has continued since then.
