I know and Russia beating out England as well not a great day
Re: USA Bid for the 2018/2022 World Cup
Qatar's bid is extremely ambitious and will be amazing if they're able to pull it off, but there's a major emphasis on the if. I really would have like to have a US World Cup, especially since Kansas City was a Candidate City, but I guess it's not to be. England and Australia both got eliminated in the first round of voting , wonder if has anything to do with the BBC allegations? FIFA are suckers for the whole cultural experience and helping developing nations stuff, but I was really surprised, I figured out of all the bidders they had the least chance.

Re: USA Bid for the 2018/2022 World Cup
FIFA wasn't always this way they used to be stuffy and not so outgoing. South Africa shocked me and changed them I think they're trying to capture that all over again with Qatar. Russia isn't that far out of the box. And yes I'm sure the BBC hurt England's bid.
Re: USA Bid for the 2018/2022 World Cup
I'll be honest, Qatar hosting the cup is more of a joke than if an individual state in the US hosted the cup, it's like saying Connecticut (which is roughly of same size according to the fine folks at ESPN) could host the cup, or the city of San Fransisco (which has roughly the same population, again thank you ESPN) could host the cup. It's a bad joke and I really hope the Qatar games are an utter disaster or the clear under the table dealings that occurred are hit hard and FIFA is hurt by this decision so they learn not to do something as blatantly stupid as this. I'm all for reaching out and the South Africa games were a great example of how that can work.... but this is reaching out just for the sake of reaching out not for the sake of putting on a good cup.

Re: USA Bid for the 2018/2022 World Cup
Just to show what exactly the US, Australia, and Japan lost to, here is a video of five of the planned Qatar 2022 stadiums:

I'm not really happy about them winning, but if the games are a failure remains to be seen. I think if they can pull off all that they have promised it would be amazing, but again major emphasis on the if.

indeed they spent alot on building up Dubai and the Oil money isn't what it used to be.
as to the stadiums the first two were sweet(anyone else find it funny that they showed the first one nearly empty with the crowd noise of a sold out stadium?) the one with the ribbons not as cool looking I like the modular upper deck concept it's something I did in Rorysville with Celtic Field(in theory not in BAT) the 4th was pretty cool with the mall and all attached, and the one with the Giant TV screen wrapped on it was ok but it looked exactly the same as the 3rd just different wrap job.
also Wacky not EVERY country in the Middle East involves terrorism just saying that shows you immaturity. Sure it could be a concern but that was also a concern in South Africa,it'll be the same in Brazil,Russia, even if it was here.

Eh no. You haven't read their bid exactly.Emperador gran dios wrote:and when these stadiums then sit, unused.... and sucking money from the qatar government will they look so nice in complete abandon... China is a far better off country than qatar and there beautiful new stadium.... sits empty
First of all, their economy is off of oil. We all know how much in demand oil is, and when the amounts get lower, the price gets higher. Secondly, about your stadiums being abandoned, the majority of the stands, according to the bid committee, will be transported after the World Cup to developing countries to build their own stadiums. One stadium in particular will be completely removed, and not a trace of it will remain, and it will go to a country whose funds are much tighter.
You have to admit though that since Doha got the rights, they will pull off something absolutely amazing, just like the other Arabian countries. And terrorism isn't much of a problem in my opinion, funds can buy security as well. Although then again, people can still get through (Portland just had a thwarted terrorist attack that if it was successful and a bomb blew up in the center of the city last Friday, over 10,000 people would be endangered).
FIFA in my opinion made a very good decision giving Doha the honors, as I said, they will pull off a show rivaling the Beijing Olympics. I can assure you that.

The UAE, in particular Dubai, has had a growth spurt that nobody else has really had yet, including Doha. I bet half the world hasn't heard of Doha until they announced they were hosting the world cup todayEmperador gran dios wrote:and the UAE's economy is off of oil too and they went from one of the fastest growing nations to as I said... Re: USA Bid for the 2018/2022 World Cup
Qatar has an active football club league, so I imagine they will find some use, in two of the new stadiums were planned to be built even if Qatar did not win, and "the upper tiers of the stadiums will be disassembled after the World Cup and donated to countries with less developed sports infrastructure." reducing the capacity of the stadiums and making them more suitable for the small nation.

U.S. can bid in 2026! No Europe and Asia in our way, only hurdle is South America.

Re: USA Bid for the 2018/2022 World Cup
All about Arrowhead and Qwest, but anyway, FIFA is looking to spread Football to new regions, the US already got it's World Cup, the Middle East has never had one, plus just looking at the Qatar bid it seems to be looking more to the future, and although it bears risk, FIFA likes the courage to try to make the games something new and unique. If it all plays out Qatar 2022 should be an amazing World Cup, no matter if I'm upset that there won't be games within 20 miles of my house.

Well they could afford one with all their oil money but I highly doubt it, not only will they put on a good show but they were "goody-two-shoes" compared to others...Wacky32 wrote:Cowboys Stadium for starters!

Bruce: Ha, yeah besides that video up above the stadiums, I wish US had those kind of stadiums, but we cant the economy sucks.
Re: USA Bid for the 2018/2022 World Cup
I would be willing to bet my TV that Qatar paid off several of the FIFA voters... there is just so much wrong about this bid, so much wrong about how they won..... it just doesn't seem right. I honestly hope the Qatar cup is a disaster.... there is just sooo much wrong with this victory.
