Games of the XIII Simlympiad Opening Ceremony brought to you in true HD courtesy of AINTv. Commentary provided by Andrei von Stoven, correspondent for “Komostavos, Petrova!” and Gizem Ximena Poslavska, Miss Petrova 2008.

INTERACT:To fully enjoy your viewing experience, please let everything load. Skipping ahead of segments is not adviced.

Andrei: It is a cool and clear evening here at the beautiful Petrovar capital at Chihiro. It has been raining for a couple of days now, but today seems to be the lucky night with clear skies for the rest of the night.

Gizem: We are live at the Qhiro Athletistadium, jam packed at 94,000 spectators and there is an expected estimated number of 88 million viewers worldwide. The country officially only had one month to prepare for these games, so it will be interesting to see what’s in store for tonight.

Andrei: The countdown is to begin in just a few minutes. Earlier this month, there was controversy with smokes coming from this stadium, so some people are uneasy with the stadium, that’s for sure. But the country has made sure that everything goes perfect.

Gizem: Here now is the countdown! Each second shows a picture of the places around the country.

Dame i gospodo, mi dobrodošli ste u IGARA NA XIII Cilempiqke u Petrovoj!

Mesdames et messieurs, nous vous accueillons aux jeux de la xiii simlympique dans Petrova !

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE WELCOME YOU TO THE GAMES OF THE XIII SIMLYMPIAD IN PETROVA!

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC7

Andrei: The opening ceremony has finally commenced! Now, the next segment should answer any questions about the games.

Gizem: What you are seeing right now is smoke. But the thing is, it’s actually an innovative mix of mist, light effects, LCD screens and holograms. You are now hearing the voices of people around the world!

Andrei: We are still in the opening sequence and the stadium has now been transformed into an enchanting and mysterious forest.

Gizem: This represents one of the three major themes that we will be seeing in the opening ceremony tonight.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC11

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC12

Gizem: The stars you are seeing are actually real people harnessed. These are actually ancient symbols in Petrovar Mythology, representing peace and unity.

Andrei: We are now seeing a vague glimpse of the rings. Those blue sparkles are actually fire crickets, which are mythical creatures in Petrovar Mythology.

Gizem: And there you have it folks! The Simlympic Rings, representing unity, strength and peace. These rings are actually fast moving LCD screens, developed exclusively for the rings. Since the rendering of 3-d holographic images is still not available, the Petrovars used the next best thing: tiny LCD screens, the size of a fingernail. The forest is the heart of Petrova, this is where the country had its mythical origins.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC13

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC14

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC15

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC16

Andrei: Amazing. The Petrovars will be using some of the most innovative technologies during the ceremonies. These fireworks you are now seeing have been synchronized to the last nanosecond to match the music. Victor Sari Devi, the President of the Chihiro Games, got DisneyWorld Orlando to help with the fireworks.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC17

Gizem: Bollywood culture is definitely a huge part of Petrova. Petrova has recently had a huge number of Indian and Middle Eastern immigrants come into the country and the nation has quickly picked up culture from its Asian neighbors. These ladies have been rehearsing since last year to prepare for their performance.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC18

Andrei: Now we focus our attention to the face of the country. And that is the Queen of Petrova herself, Queen Zivanna Ivanka. She is actually on stilts and she is carrying the flag of Petrova. She truly deserves to be introducing the flag of Petrova. She should be proud and you can see that in her face.

Gizem: You are absolutely right Vlad. She has brought the games to Chihiro. The country was in such disarray, the Petrovar bid to host the games was in spring 2009, then summer 2009, then fall 2009, then finally 2010. The country thought that it would never be able to the games because of the disorganization of the Chihiro Committee. But you know what, Queen Ivanka took over from the former Royal Family and pulled all her connections from all over the world to fund the bid and the games. She was the one who persisted that the Chihiro bid wasn’t good enough. She made sure that no matter who made a bid for the August Games, Chihiro would come out on top and win. The Petrovar bid raised standards and I think that the Queen will be in her grave and there will still yet to be a bid to triumph the 2010 Chihiro Bid. There was also a lot of trouble and confusion during the planning of the games, but she overlooked everything and made sure everything was perfect. This night and the games will be a triumph for the queen.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC19

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC99

Molimo vas da se zalažu za Himna Kraljevine Petrova.

S'il vous plaît se lever pour l'hymne national du Royaume de Petrova.

Please stand up for the national anthem of the Kingdom of Petrova.

Gizem: I don’t think there’s a single Petrovar in the stadium right now that isn’t teary eyed. This is such an emotional national anthem.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC20

Andrei: When we come back from this short break, the magic continues with the athletic segment.

Gizem: Welcome back to the athletic and artistic segments. The first is the athletic programme and we now turn to the screen and see a flashback of the past twelve Simlympics. It’s amazing how far the games have come and Petrova is definitely honored to be a part of it!

Andrei: We are now at the artistic programme. Ah, the iconic Mask of Life, which is the logo of the 2010 August Games. Fire is now coming out of the mask, representing the passion of the Petrovars.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC42

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC43

Gizem: Just a reminder that although the fire from the mask is real, this one is not. The fires here are LEDs. But the fire outside the stadium is very much real! I’m sure the folks at the Athletistadium are feeling the heat, but its all good as it’s chilly in Petrova.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC44

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC45

Andrei: What we are seeing now is 600 specially trained fire performers from the southern region of Petrova. Remember, kids, don’t try this at home.

Gizem: And adults too!

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC46

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC47

Gizem: Here is my favorite part. You can’t expect to have an opening ceremony from Petrova without a colorful and beautiful pageantry of Petrovar culture can you? There is a total of 2,000 performers in this segment. About 500 of them are from the Russian National Ballet Company and about 800 are from the Petrovar National Ballet Company.

INTERACT: For an enhanced parade of nations and the rest of the ceremony viewing experience, we advice that you play this song for the rest of the ceremony.

Gizem: An interesting fact about the Parade of Nations is that the music used for the parade will be an ensemble of music from around the world. And with innovative technology, each country will be synchronized to music from their region or union, and the music will continue to follow them until they reach the middle of the stadium.

Andrei: Here at the Chihiro Games, where the difference is the experience, the nations are going in random order. That's right, pure random order! Of course the only exceptions to this are Wales and Petrova, the host nation. Over 120 countries have sent in delegations to walk in the parade.

Gizem: We should point out that here in the Chihiro 2010 Games, they have chosen a unique approach with the parade. In the past recent simlympics, the parade of nations are short, but just like the early simlympics, the parade of nations tonight has been made longer. Another one of Queen Zivanka's amazing ideas, that makes this simlympics special.

Andrei: In the past Simlympics, New Rhodesia always entered the parade as New Rhodesia, but here in Petrova, they will be entering in as the Dominion of Wales. New Rhodesia City is the capital city of the Dominion of Wales and is the principal city of the Province of New Rhodesia.

Andrei: Here comes Dimland. Petrova considers Penthesili to have brought one of the amazing Simlympics and coincidentally, Petrova joined Simsports during the 2008 August Games hosted by Penthesili.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC68

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC69

Gizem: And finally is Petrova! I have never heard a more louder cheer from the audience than this! There are about 1,200 athletes and officials in the Petrovar delegation. On a bitter note however, the Petrovar Men’s Football Team is walking in shame as they failed to qualify in the finals. So while we will not be seeing the men’s play in Chihiro, we will be seeing the Petrovar women play football. But, I don’t think that this night has raised the men’s spirits, they all look so happy!

Andrei: Now that everyone is in the stadium, and with the torch just minutes away from the stadium, here are the speeches and the oaths.

Gizem: The honor of the athlete’s oath goes to Nikolai Valkova, gold medalist in Gymnastics at the Petrolympics. He earned 6th place at the Leah 2009 Games.

In the name of all the competitors I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honour of our teams.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC73

Andrei: And the honor for the judge’s oath goes to Ilya Bekbulatoviqi, the referee for the Petrovar National Football Team.

In the name of all the judges and officials, I promise that we shall officiate in these Olympic Games with complete impartiality, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Andrei: Here now is the Queen of Petrova, and as far as everyone’s concerned for tonight, the Queen of the 2010 Simlympic Games.

Komostavos World! Yes, that is a popular saying around here, which means hello and welcome! We have been waiting a long time for this moment and before Petrova leaves in December, it is such an honor to be able to host the games. For the next sixteen days, I invite you all to make yourselves at home here at Petrova. Welcome home!

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL SIMLYMPIC COMMITTEE, PRESIDENT SLACKER.

Gizem: And now is the man that made everything possible, President Slacker.

Good evening Chihiro, thank you for having me here tonight!

Firstly, another huge thank you to the organising committee for all their hard work in ensuring the games we see here tonight were ready in time. They've laboured for hours delivering the greatest stadiums the Sim World has seen and creating this fabulous Opening Ceremony we've had the pleasure of seeing here tonight, so thank you!

This mark months the 4th anniversary of the Simlympic Movement, we've come an incredibly long way in the past 4 years. People said a Simlympics would never work, that it had been tried before and never succeeded; well we proved them wrong. 13 Simlympics and 2 Winter Simlympics later, the Simlympics are still going strong, each Simlympic Games has been better than the one before, both in presentation and in depth. But we must not rest on our laurels, we must keep working to improve the games more and more, and that is what we intend to do.

Thank you and enjoy the next 16 days of incredible sport!

Dame i gospodo, Vaše visočanstvo, kralj Andre IV Petrova!

Mesdames et Messieurs, Votre Altesse, André IV roi de Petrova!

Gizem: Now here is the last part of the ceremony: the Simlympic torch. The flame has finally arrived at the stadium, with Tarek Mironov, National Hero after the Lanayru Flood in 2009.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC81

Andrei: Here, where the difference is the experience, Chihiro decided to not do traditional and have non-athletic torch bearers. And so, the relay continues with
• Eva Gharaqalki, Gold Medalist in Gymnastics
• Sergei Marpo, Petrova’s first billionaire President of BBC
• Pavel Tchaikovksy, Gold Medalist in Tennis
• Irina Qephelepova, First Miss Petrova 2007
• Ivan Machenslav, Petrovar Pop Singer
• Lampros Menky, Gold Medalist in Men’s 800m
• Carolina Saviq, Petrovar Actress
• Marelisa Obad, Silver Medalist Archery
• Alexander de Bruyn, Men’s 200m Backstroke Gold Medalist
• Adraina Vicente, Bronze Medalist at Modern Pentathlon
• Dino Kattou, Petrovar Socialite

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC82

Gizem: And finally, the final person is Viktor Ruais, Goalkeeper of the Chihiro National Football Team. He is making his way into the center of the stadium with the cauldron. Now this isn’t the actual Simlympic Cauldron for the games.

qhiro 2010 | opening ceremony OC83

Andrei: He lights the cauldron and with audience goes wild! The exterior of the stadium is on fire! And the 150ft Simlympic Torch Tower has been lit!

Andrei: The torch has been lit, now what? Well here’s something a little different to what we usually see in the opening ceremonies. The Chihiro Games Committee has hired Walt Disney World Epcot in Orlando, USA to help out with the closing. The Petrovars want to end the opening ceremony with a bang, and nobody is going to stop them! The folks at the Athletistadium and you at home will be witnessing twenty minutes of non-stop fireworks synchronized to music recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.

I think that the word "EPIC" is short for describing the opening ceremony you've made, Peter.

Truly epic, some of the best (maybe the best, don't know) SC4-related things I've seen in all my lifetime...

I've been watching this from my corner of the world with much anticipation.

To put it simply this display has put some of my faith back in the entity known as the simlympic games. Peter it is a shame that you have mentioned in your bid that Petrova will be no more after these games. You've done something few on this board, or many other places has been able to achieve and that's create a country with culture and a life force; you've created more than just nice eye candy.

This opening ceremony was by far the best because for the first time you used it as a canvas to show your country, your ideas... not just a loose conglomerate of pictures you could grab off of google from past olympic games. As an artist, I appreciate the effort and the mastery that went into these ceremonies and I hope you can deliver equally impressive displays in the sporting events and further restore some of my faith in the simlympics.

By the time I got through, maybe 25% of the first post, I was already simply going... damn Neutral This is the greatest spectacle i've ever seen online. The only way it could have been better was if one of those pics with the nations had central texas but that cannot detract from the fact that this was simply stunning.

It would have been cool to display each and every nation, but Peter really did tons of work...no time left!

Thank you guys so much! You guys made this possible with your support, thats what kept me going and motivated to make this OC possible.

K50: Well most of the ideas in this OC I had back from 08, then when I won last month, that's when I actually worked on the ceremony. It took me about two weeks straight to do the entire OC Smile

Dljrfn: Thank you so much for those kind words and I am really glad that you are back. Yes, I know I'm leaving SC after this (sometime this fall, most likely december, but maybe earlier than that), but I really have so much going on in my RL that I have to leave SC Sad

Simsamerica: I'm sorry! I thought about doing every country, but I didn't have time, so I just randomly picked countries besides Petrova, Wales and Dimland Smile

I hope that I won't dissapoint you guys in the next couple of days Smile As for the closing ceremony, it will be less spectacular than the opening ceremony, but it will still be great...I hope. I don't even think I can top my own ceremony Razz
