Re: Racing News
You boys need to get some proper racing into you!
Bathurst 1000 - October 10th. The NASCAR drivers (except Marcos & Boris Said*) would wet themselves at that place. If you can find a tv channel that'll show it in the US, it'd be well worth the 6 hours of your time
Track Guide
2009 Bathurst 1000 Intro, narrated by Russell Crowe
2009 Onboard Race Lap (in the rain - as if the track wasn't tough enough already!)
2009 Race Finish
* "Holy s**t." - Boris Said, after his first look at the Mount Panorama circuit.
"To me, it’s the best track in the world, and one of the toughest races in the world. I’d love to have another shot at it." - Boris Said, after the 2008 Bathurst 1000. He and co-driver Matt Neal DNF'd after 140 laps.

Re: Racing News
SPEED does that, I like bathurst although the best experiance I've had was TOCA 3, I did do an F1 car round there and It flew... literally over the hill between 1 and 2. Unfortuantly its the slot where theres NASCAR of some sort is on on another channel and is basically filler , I was half asleep and had no idea what it was the only broadcast I caught which was Queensland but it does seem like a nice series. I catch everything I can, V8's, BTCC, DTM, WRC Highlights, F1, GP2 (Have set to DVR), and so on and so forth. I kinda wish we had some Formula Renault here... oh and Top Gear I kinda both want and don't want the US Top Gear, want cuz of the obvious Patriotic and selfish reasons, don't want, Probably wont be as good.
-Will
P.S. I completely agree with Boris Said. Do the cars actually fly over the hill there between 1 and 2?

Re: Racing News
TOCA/BTCC are sorry excuses for touring cars atm. Nothing but a demo derby - actually worse than NASCAR in that respect!
The long-standing lap record at Bathurst (since beaten) was held by a McLaren F5000 car (F5000 rules, btw ), but they don't let open wheelers race there anymore - too fast, too blind, and too much concrete. The current qualifying record is all over youtube - search for 'Lap of the Gods'. Just blew everyone away.
The V8s don't actually get completely off the ground (too heavy for that!), but drivers will normally lift off before the crests on Mountain Straight and Conrod Straight (they'll take them flat in qualifying). Conrod used to have a second, bigger crest, but it was replaced with the Chase after a guy was killed after getting airborne and hitting a bridge (pre-87 footage on youtube has the original layout). Cars will regularly be up on two wheels at McPhillamy, and particularly the Dipper, where the road drops away from the car quite sharply. The opposite effect occurs at Reid Park, where you descend into a dip that loads up the steering so much you can't physically turn the wheel!
You lucked out if you've only seen Queensland. Its the most boring racetrack on the face of the earth. The rounds to watch (try youtube if tv fails you) are Adelaide, Phillip Island and, of course, Bathurst.
Top Gear If you haven't already, search youtube for their road trip from Miami to New Orleans, and of course the Reliant Robin Space Shuttle!

Re: Racing News
Haha, thought: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Driver of the thirty four, Extenze Fort No there's plenty of folk who would want Junior, Just noone would see him Win. I personally see many many similarities between Jr. and Kyle Petty and if these similarities are correct, 5 years from now, Jr. might be having a few DNQ's.
Re: Racing News
I'm thinking a tad deeper... Similiarties
3rd Generation of currently 4 (Petty: Lee, Richard, Kyle, Adam) (Earnhardt: Ralph, Ralph Dale (Dale Sr.) Ralph Dale (Dale Jr.) and then Jefferey).
Only were in the hunt for 1 championship. (Petty 92', finished 5th; Jr 04' or 06' finished 6th?)
Last win came 2-3 years after champ run (Petty Dover 95'; Jr. so far Michigan 08')
Both have driven for top rate teams during their careers and not done well (Petty drove for Sabco and His family team while they were still good; Jr drove in the best years of DEI and now for Hendrick).
I think Kyle took an ARCA championship when it was on par with the Sportsman Series (Pre 1982 Nationwide Series).
Incase anyone didn't know this, Kyle did win, 8 times to be exact, Jr did it 17 times? Not too far apart to me. Both more or less did it between eras too I think.
Kyle: Daddy's Era/ Dale Sr/ Gordon.
Dale Jr: Gordon/Johnson.
I could go on if you wish.
Just a few points.

Re: Racing News
I think in 2011 its is final year at Hendrick and I hope Earnhardt/Ganassi sit down to Jr and talk, or start your own team. Hes gonna go back to DEI though, Teresa better forgive Jr! He should partially own DEI, get Jr and DEI teams to form and let Jr drive the 8 again!
Re: Racing News
Champion eh? What's he won? A Busch Series title back in the day?
atm Junior would only be wanted for his ability to sell t-shirts to Wacky

Re: Racing News
He won the Daytona Nationwide Race in his dads car, with Tony Erury as his crew Chief, so yeah, if he had his own team or goes to DEI..... HE WILL BE GREATEST, YOULL SEE, HES GONNA START REALIZING THAT!
Re: Racing News
Irony that the Shirt i'm wearing is my shirt w/ his Daytona Nwide car and his dad's car? I'm not anti Jr. just I think his time has come and gone... Unless he follows his dad's footsteps Dads Championships ages:
29(maybe why harvick drives this #? idk) , 35,36, 39, 40, 42, 43. So I think that could happen no? but Jr is already 36 or 37 one (damn he's getting old :O ) But who knows? Mr September anyone? He went Cup Racing the first time as a rookie against Sr in 1979 at age 40 and got atlest 1/4 of his wins after age 50 in the early 90s including almost 5 in a row (broke or rather didn't to lose the last race (lost his brakes ))
btw Wacky, its EGR now

Re: Racing News
I know its EGR, he should go back there, and i predict in 5 years Harvick will have his own cup team (he has truck and nationwide) i will never ever EVER give up on him hes not done
Re: Racing News
ok, you do that I don't know, I think that Harvick will probably follow the example of Gordon and be at RCR till he take over Rusty Wallaces seat
One of my favorite memories of Harvick was Bristol 2001 at the Busch race, lap 83 Harvick running well ( I think he was even leading) cuts a tire and loses 1 lap trying to pit, and another actually pitting and in the 167 laps that were left, he fought from 2 laps back to win. Keep in mind that this was before the GWC and before the Lucky Dog, back then, you had to race back to the yeller and earn your lap back. And it wasn't like it was a really green flag race either, it was an average # of Yellows.

Re: Racing News
Jr is squarely in the good-not-great category. There will always be the Johnsons, Stewarts, Gordons, Buschs etc. who are simply better drivers than he is, and unless someone consistently puts a rocketship under him (and why would they when they can get better results putting, say, Kyle Busch in it) he's not going to challenge for anything other than the odd win.
On team ownership, very few people can pull off the owner-driver gig successfully. Stewart's doing ok at it, and Harvick looks like the sort who could pull it off (but I doubt he will at cup level), but I can't think of any other current driver who could. Remember, Sr never actually raced for DEI
