Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
I have submitted my nation's points.
The Imperial Atlantean Empire also has an Imperial Colony/Dependency on Earth called Perseus.
It is established and recognised as an SCJU Sub-Ambassadorial State. I didn't see the additional dependency points until I submitted my first set. So Can i use use the extra 250 points and sent them...for example if I sent again will they just automatically added to my first selection?

Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
Dependencies compete as separate nations, they just get 50% of their 'parent' nations points. They use the points, not the parent nation . But if you want to sign up Perseus, that's fine but you can't use the extra points for the IAE; you can only use them for Perseus.

Oh right
Yeah I'll have Perseus compete. I'll add it to the sign-up page and have a banner made
Thanks Slacker

I have entered the points for Myon, I double checked it, they should be correct, unless there was a rouge error that I missed.

Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
Eventually I'll get around to updating that page to include a adder - buts still a little bit ways off, other stuff to take care of first
Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
Mine all added up in a spreadsheet - lets see if they add up now they're in PAS!
(btw - this is really difficult when you've only got 31 points to hand out!)

Slacker,
Just curious, but have you noticed anyone who really loaded up points in an event and didn't win a medal or who put a token number of points in an event and won anyway?

Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
Yeah.
Some people have put 20+ points into an event and not got a medal, I mean; 20 points is a lot but when it's out of 400+ points in total it's still a small percentage. So there's gonna be a few cases where someone has loaded up an event with points but hasn't won anything. But, as can be seen in Valere's case, it certainly does increase your chances of taking home a medal.
I also think there's been a few examples of countries winning a medal with a trivial amount of points, there's certainly been countries who didn't use PAS and therefore had the default amount of points (6) and have won medals.
I think the points system has created some really interesting results, and I'm planning on creating a thread once the games are over posting some statistics (Most popular sport, least popular, how much increasing your points effects chances of winning a medal etc). Should be interesting .

Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
Can't wait for such thread.
I must see how many people sign up for sailing, canoeing and rowing. These are the event where I assign 20 points, the highest amongst all of the sports Raffore Islands is participating.
But I got to say this. This Simlympics is purely based on luck, not the nations' best sports. But I guess some systems have its flaws. Nothing is perfect in this world.

I'm also looking forward to seeing some statistics. I loaded up on archery, fencing, swimming, rowing and cycling with a few other toke events. Both Ainkien and the Nalsa Islands participate in similar events, though with different emphasis - I think I allocated the swimming medals heavily for the Nalsas but only Ainkien has one a swimming medal so far, for example. Of course, I can't really remember a lot of the details of what I put the points on, but I just know that I probably had about 90% of the points for both countries in the first half of the symlimpic schedule, so I'm not expecting any medals after today.

Oh, that's not a fault. Far from it. The system is designed that way.
Perhaps this was my fault, some people seem to be under the impression that entering a high number of points into a sport means they will win a medal; let me put this in no uncertain terms, it does not! The idea behind PAS is so that competitors can chose not to compete in certain events, and say which events they should have a higher chance of succeeding in. But that's all it is, a higher chance. We don't want PAS to be a 'pick which medals you're going to win' system as that would be turn the Simlympics into a complete borefest.
I think this analogy might help. Imagine the drawing of a lottery, there are hundreds of numbered balls inside a spinning thing and three are selected randomly; these are the medal winners. In the past, each competitor just had one ball, but now with PAS you can chose how many balls you'd like. If you assign 20 points to a certain sport, you'll have 20 balls instead of one. Whilst this will no doubt increase your chances of winning a medal, it is still only 20 balls out of 400+. Even if you've entered 100 balls, there's still a chance you won't win a medal.
And it's going to stay like that. A big proportion of what happens in sport comes down to luck, on paper Manchester United may be a far better team than Stoke City but when it comes down to it Stock still have a chance of winning. Sport would be boring if the results were already decided and there was no luck or chance involved. And the Simlympics are just the same.

Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
I think PAS is working quite well, especially for the first time being used. Ainkien and the Nalsas are doing well in some of the sports that I loaded up in points on; not so well in others. Then there are surprises, like a medal in a sport where I didn't even remember putting any points on.
I'm having a lot of fun watching the results because they are more realistic and I was able to "specialise" in my favourite sports. That's still no guarantee of a win, though. There is a little strategy involved, but the rest is all luck and that's making it even more fun than it was last time.

Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
Just a notice: I'm taking the PAS System down until the day after the host of the April 09 games are decided. I need to do a ton of testing.
Re: PAS (Points Allocation System) [PAS now offline]
Just to clarify how the points will work for the April games:
1) We'll update how many points everyone has.
2) You can either resubmit your points entirely
3) Or you can just submit the extra points to the events of your choosing.

Sorry my fault.
I've just got to update the amount of points everyone has, and then we'll put the PAS site back up again.
Planning on doing it tomorrow .
