Petrova
History:
Founded in the mid 1900's, the present day country of Petrova is situated in the center of the map, between Russia, Ukraine, and Georgia. Though small in size (half the size of France), Petrova has gained the cultural admiration of Eastern Europe as well as Western Asia. But everything began in the late 1800's. Petrova was founded by the future Petrovan Royal Family, Naridah and Sergei Petravo. They were a poor family who settled in present day Chihiro, the country's cultural and political center.
Soon after, the city of Chihiro was established, and prospered steadily until the world wars. The country became even more prosperous during the world wars after providing the vast Russian and allies armies with food and arms. When the technology revolution occured in the west, Petrova, like its neighbors were struggling with its economy. By the 80's, the country is home to over 40 million inhabitants. There were mass starvation, since the soil was barren and the southern half of Petrova is mountainous, until a genious farmer named Sim Bob Sim came up with the technique called "love thy soil". The idea was to water the soil with the special water found in the the Sea of Azov (now Sea of Petrova). The soil immediately became soft and allowed for farming. Around 1970, the people were fed up with the Russians not paying attention to them. The country of Petrova wasn't declared a country until the Petro-Russo Revolution in 1975.
Economy:
Petrova is known for its lucious soil and therefore the ability to produce wines, wheat, rice, soy and is currently number 5 in the top exporters of lumber. Petrova has a growing middle class and is gaining wealth every year due to its exports around the world.
Government:
Chihiro is the capital and is home to the Petrovan Royal Family, while the Prime Minister resides in Brytyavska, the country's second largest city. Petrova is a constitutional monarchy.
Culture:
Since the country is situated between Eastern Europe and Asia, Petrova truly is a melting pot of different cultures and people. They speak Petrovar and English and although there is 90% freedom, Roman Catholic is the prevailing religion. Although it is one of the youngest countries in the world, the Petrovan culture is very rich due to its Russian ancestry.
Environment:
After the Health Decree that was passed in 2006, all major cities in Petrova are banned to have any factories, power plants or any buildings that cause high pollution. They will be located in a nearby suburban city. Chihiro is one of the cleanest cities in the world due to the Adopt-a-sister city decree, encouraging everyone to pick up the trash in their homes as well as in the public. The whole capital beltway(Chihiro and Vicinity) is powered by power plants in nearby suburb Grevershki. Most factories are located Fordham Acres.
Present Day:
Today, Petrova is a bustling and thriving country that stretches out to the Caspian to the Sea of Petrova (Sea of Azov), bordering Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan to the north and Georgia and Azerbaijan to the south. Petrova is among the fastest growing countries in the world, along with China and India, with a population of 70 million in just a century. Chihiro, the capital is the seat of the Royal Family who governs the country. Petrova is a constitutional monarchy. The largest cities in Petrova are Chihiro, Brytyavska, and Avenida Vista. Today, the city of Chihiro can be compared to Paris, and New York.

Re: Petrova
Very good history but your city building skills need developing. I'm not trying to be critical, just helpful. You should build a city thinking "Is this what a real city would look like?" Things like a giant red pyramid in the middle of a grassy city just don't mix well. I also suggest you take a look at the Omnibus section on Simtropolis.

Re: Petrova
Ok I got what your saying. I apologize for not explaining it well, but the pyramid is located there since it's a theme park that's supposed to emulate the feel of the four main corners of the world: Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. The pyramid is supposed to be a smaller replica of the actual one, and currently serves as a museum. I can't get bat to work on my laptop so I can't make a smaller version of the pyramid. The International Village is a Theme Park that is supposed to give people a feel of that particular place. So for example in Asia, there are the funky shaped roofs, so naturally in the Asian district, I would build buildings that give the feel as if you were in China or in Japan. Also I'm not yet finished making the International Village, so it kinda looks weird. But I promise that it'll look awesome once finished in time for the 2008 olympics. Thanks for your advice though. And I'll what I can do to make my city a bit more realistic.
Re: Petrova
You've got a real great start and like all others your skills are showing let them grow some more and you'll have an amazing country on your hands. also I'd like to officially welcome your CJ here to SimSports
Re: Petrova
As of 8.10.08, a new Olympic Complex has been going underway to being the most breath-taking in all of Europe. The complex is divided in half by the Int'l Expy. The western half is being renovated at a cost of more than 70 billion Petrovars ($80 billion USD). The eastern half consists of the Athletistadium, the National Baseball Stadium, the National Football Stadium, and several ice stadiums. Instead of renovating the eastern half, the Chihiran Government has decided to use it on the city and only renovate the Athletistadium if Chihiro wins the bid to host the Simlympics
Expanded Site
There will be venues for equestrian, hockey, aquatics, beach games, soccer, football and tennis.
This is the Touer Athletis. It is a tower with screens on all sides that will be posting events, medal counts, and Sports News. The Olympic Square(north of the touer) is under construction.

Re: Petrova
I like the tie in to the real world events in Georgia and Russia, being Petrova is right between the two countries a fenominal tie in for you, lucky for you in a way. I agree with Canuck yes unpaused is better for pictures, and sorry I just really dont like the Beijing Olympic Swiming Stadium but still a nice start to the olympic green, I like the famers market styled buildings they add something different around key sites.

Haha, how can being between Georgia and Russia lucky for us Petrovars? Clearly, the Russians are pissed at us for making our own country in Russian soil. Oh well.
Re: Petrova
Chihiro Olympic Complex
Here is the entire Olympic Complex. Only the western half has been renovated. We are now truly ready to bid to host the December '08 Simlympics!
The western half of the complex has been completed at a cost of 64 billion Petrovars($74 billion USD). It is nicknamed "the olympic green" because it truly has a spacious grassy environment that is home to 6 olympic sized venues.
The iconic symbol of not only the city, but the country as well is the Touer Athletis and the Olympic Square.

From the Dept. of Diplomacy
Chihiro has finished hosting the Petrolympics, which is a miniature version of the Simlympics to see who would represent Petrova in the games of the 7th Simlympiad in Penthesili. Pictures will be posted soon as well as the names of the 36 athletes competing in a wide range of events in Penthesili. I will have them posted at the earliest on Saturday, as I have to travel to Georgia, Russia and the whole Western Europe to talk about Petrovar matters. Maybe I'll drop by to a few simnation cities.

Dept of Diplomacy
As there are a lot of things happening, from coverage of the Simlympics to Blizzard Rogues that damaged parts of Chihiro to the Simlympic Bid for Chihiro, I will be posting events of a recent edition of the Delegate.
Also, there will be a wikipedia article about the history and everything there is to know about Petrova. Kind of like a CJ of Petrova in wikipedia. There are also talks of Chihiro's own website being made, but I don't know anything yet.
As for the bidding, all I can say is that we will post our bid for the december games between september 13-21.

Update:
Turns out Wikipedia only accepts "real" stuff that is important to history. So, there probably won't be a wikipedia website. But if anyone knows a website similar to wikipedia that allows for "imaginary and stuff not related to history" then please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Petrova
Mabuhay! Since the title of this article post is called "Destination: Petrova", every week I will be posting up pictures of the all over the country, updates and new Petrovan language 101 tips so you can be ready the next time you visit Petrova!
This week, I will be showing you to one the most largest parks in the world. Built in 1940, the Parq d'Importancia is a memorial park located south of Chihiro. Although it is one of the best places to have peace and quite, the park is also one of the heavily guarded in the world. It even has twice the security protection than China's Forbidden City. The Parq d'Importancia is home to statues depicting famous figures in Petrovar and the western world history. All of the statues are made of the precious stones found only in Petrova, Kosovo, Russia and the Balkans. And if Chihiro wins the bid for the December Simlympics, the park will be used for the marathon.
Petrovan of the week:
Each week, I will be teaching you a new Petrovan word and a new Petrovan grammar tip.
In Petrova, there is only one way to say hello even at anytime of the day, and it is "komost".
(pronounced "koh-mohst"). When saying farewell, there's only one word: "Osige" (Osi-ge, where the "ge" is pronounced like "get").
Petrovan is one of the hardest languages to learn. There are rules for just about everything. In Petrovan, there are two types of adjectives. One category for people and another for things. When speaking of people, for example, you say Petrovar. But when you say things from Petrova, you say Petrovan. The only exception is the currency, the Petrovar. Another example is the capital city's name. Some people spell it "Qhiro", while others "Chihiro". They sound the same, but native Petrovars just say "Qhiro", where the second "hi" is silent.
Stay tuned next week and we will be visiting the Civic Complex of Chihiro.

Re: Petrova
Lol, yeah Wikipedia can be pretty awkward. What happened, did you create the page and then they deleted it?
Petrolympics were great though, I love the amphitheater - did you make that yourself?
The park is sweet too, kinda reminds me of a maze lol. Would be a great place for a marathon .
Osige!

Re: Petrova
Yea, I am soo pissed at wikipedia. They said it was useless, irrelivant to history. I mean isn't wikipedia an encyclopedia. And don't encyclopedias contain just about everything? Well, an imaginary city has got to count for something.
I am trying to convince the king to not declare war on wikipedia and to an extent, the internet. The people have retaliated to wikipedia's response. But I think that the king is more focused on the simnation of Russia.
Thanks, yup, i used the amalienborg and then made it into a 250 degree theater.
Parq-haha thats what i thought too! That'll be hilarious if atheletes get lost in there if we win the simlympics bid lol.
And thank you for taking interest in the Petrovan language! And it's half-made up and half real, so in a way im teaching people an actual real world language! Salamat!
