June 20 ... Piscataway's Kirby Brown was not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to Arlington at Knights Field. Upon being called out on strikes, the Scarlet Knights second baseman gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower. But the disgruntled Brown lingered on the field for another five minutes berating the umpire, and continued his tirade to reporters after the game. For all of his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Brown for 2 games...
June 20 ... Doctors in Glauchau said Cristián Sánchez may not play anymore this year. The Thunder second baseman received a fractured skull during a game against the Harahan Inferno and will be out for at least 7 months. Club officials told BNN they did not expect him to return to the team this season...

Silva is currently hitting at a .321 pace with 16 home runs, 46 RBIs and has scored 38 times...
One of the league's most exciting young players, Bartolo León of the Delphi Pythons earned himself Jackie Robinson League Player of the Week honours with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 24-year-old first baseman had a lofty .500 average (12-24), collecting 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 10 runs scored. Currently León is hitting .335 and has collected 15 home runs, 44 RBIs and scored 44 times, while playing in 71 games...

SimCity League Baseball All-Star Game - Astoria Park, Kennedy:
Luxembourg's Raúl Bravo was the hero for the Roberto Clemente League All-Stars, but it was his teammate Jean Carrasqueiro who carried off the MVP Trophy. Carrasqueiro hit 4-4, tying the game at 4 with a solo home run off Nyhaven's Roberto Pérez in the 8th innings, before Bravo belted a walk-off three-run homer off Hypertrophy's Sylvester Grimes in the bottom of the ninth. Grimes took the loss, while Port Charlotte's José Arellano pitched a perfect ninth for the win. Langley's David Hill also homered for the RCL, while Animaltown's Curt Miller added a solo shot for the Jackie Robinson League All-Stars.
Game starting pitchers Yoshimi Horiuchi of Hypertrophy, and Gloucester's Pepe López both threw two innings, with SLB strikeout leader López putting on a clinic by striking out five of the seven hitters he faced.

June 25 ... Arlington Sounders pitcher Júlio Medina joined baseball's most elite fraternity today by tossing a perfect game against the Greenville Industrialists. In the 5-0 Arlington win Medina had 7 strikeouts, retiring all 27 hitters he faced. He told the press, "I think it was in the eighth inning that it dawned on me that not only was I pitching a no-hitter, but no one has gotten on base either. I had a perfect game going. But you know, I felt as strong as I did in the first inning. I went right after them with all I had... and I got me a perfect game..."
June 25 ... The Gold handed the Ravens a 9-8 loss at Fulworth Financial Field and León Garza had a big hand in the win. The Gold first baseman came to the plate 7 times and collected 6 hits. Garza singled in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 7th, hit a three-run home run off C. Lee in the 8th, struck out in the 10th and hit a solo-shot off Á. Escalante in the 12th. June 25 ... Katsunosuki Miyata had an impressive outing today. He hurled the Animaltown Anies to a 7-0 shutout victory over the New Edinburgh Red Coats, yielding 3 hits with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk. "He threw strikes and he was always around the plate," the New Edinburgh skipper said. "The ball was doing everything he wanted it to do. June 26 ... Several Grizzlies and Falcons players soon will have to start shopping for a new home. It was announced today that the two teams came to agreement on a trade. Fortuna will get 31-year old reliever Edgardo Serrano and 23-year old reliever Ismael Cruz, and Tegville will pick up 33-year old catcher Juan Flores and 21-year old shortstop Jorge Anguiana in return. The Atlas Island Storm got some bad news when the team learned that Roy Bell was likely to be out for 3 weeks after he injured himself throwing the ball in today's game against the Fortuna Grizzlies. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a strained bicep tendon. This year Bell is batting .278 with 107 hits, 24 home runs, 88 RBIs, 49 walks, .353 OBP and has scored 62 runs...
August 6 ... Luxembourg first baseman Eddie Bergstrom disposed of the Redbirds with a great 5-hit performance today. Bergstrom hit a solo-shot off A. Gonzáles in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th. This year Bergstrom is batting .370 with 37 home runs. He has scored 91 runs and driven in 88...
August 6 ... The action was hot and heavy at a recent Bristol-Clarvant game at BristoCell Field in more ways than one. When tempers flared, both benches emptied and a mild melee ensued. Two of the main figures in the brawl were suspended today by league officials. The Sox Miguel Torres and Clarvant's Jesús Zumaya will each miss 5 games for their roles in the fight. This season-to-date Torres has 31 home runs and a .289 batting average. This year Zumaya has no saves, totaled 61.2 innings, allowed 61 base hits and fashioned a 5.11 ERA while racking up 50 strikeouts and a record of 2 wins and 3 losses...
August 6 ... Everything clicked on the hill today for Fyodor Hudolei of the Hartford Tailgators as he hurled his club to a 3-0 shutout win over the Linktoria Reds, limiting them to 4 hits while recording 5 strikeouts and yielding 1 walk. He overpowered some batters with his fastball and buckled knees with his sharp breaking pitches. In 25 starts this season Hudolei has chalked up a 7-11 record and a 4.09 ERA...
August 6 ... The news is bad in Kensington. The Gold have lost the services of first baseman Domingo Martínez for the rest of the season due to a torn hamstring muscle. Martínez was injured in a recent game with the Nyhaven Regals while running the bases and is expected to miss 7 months. Martínez is currently hitting at a .265 pace with 6 home runs and 47 RBIs...
August 7 ... After the end of today's game between Spider Hills and North Brabant, Gerard Lovenbury skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after running the bases, the Spiders had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The shortstop will miss at least 2 weeks with a strained thigh muscle. So far this season Lovenbury is batting .274 with 8 home runs, 55 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has 110 hits in 402 at-bats, 41 walks and a .341 OBP. Lovenbury has played in 114 games...
August 7 ... The agitation was hot and heavy at Blue Rock Stadium yesterday. After a called third strike Inferno right fielder Carlos Martínez protested the call in no uncertain terms. While he and the home plate umpire were jawing face-to-face, a few bumps took place and Martínez was ejected from the game. "It was verbal, nothing more," according to Martínez. However, the league frowned on what transpired and suspended him for 4 games. Currently Martínez is hitting .322 and has collected 25 home runs, 98 RBIs and scored 78 times, while playing in 113 games...

José Lozano, known affectionately as "the old man" by the younger players in the Bombers clubhouse, showed his teammates how to do it last week - and in the process the 37-year-old vet beat out all competition for the Roberto Clemente League Player of the Week Award. He put up a .640 batting average, 16 hits in 25 at-bats, 5 home runs and 10 RBIs. Lozano also scored 9 runs. Thus far in 2010 Lozano is batting .357 with 26 home runs, 83 RBIs and 57 runs scored...
At the age of 27, Bryce Cutler might have some potential he hasn't realized yet - if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Harahan third baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the Jackie Robinson League Player of the Week Award. He racked up 13 hits in 23 at-bats, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs last week in 7 games. Cutler is hitting at a .376 mark this season. His stats show 7 home runs, 59 RBIs and 76 runs scored. He has played 105 games for the Inferno...

July Awards:
When Harold Keeble stepped up to the plate in July, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Roberto Clemente League Batter of the Month award. The young Cedar Bluffs left fielder posted a .356 batting average with 13 home runs, 33 RBIs and scored 30 runs. Keeble also worked pitchers for 17 walks to post a .440 on-base percentage. In 2010 Keeble has hit at a .313 clip with 125 hits, 33 home runs, 82 RBIs and has scored 79 times...
Guillermo Méndez hit the baseball with consistency all month long and was voted the Jackie Robinson League's Batter of the Month for July. The Jenress first baseman batted .405 and posted 13 home runs, 38 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He also drew 13 walks for a .466 OBP. This year Méndez has 30 home runs and a .345 batting average...
Cameron Marshall hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Roberto Clemente League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In July the Luxembourg starter earned a 6-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 44 innings, struck out 37 and compiled a solid 1.84 ERA. In 2010 thus far, Marshall has tossed 159.2 innings in 23 starts, fanned 148 batters, walked 16 and put up a 1.92 ERA with 20 wins and no losses...
When Roberto Durán takes the hill, he's a good bet to nail down the victory for the Earlton Silverhawks. At least that's the way it was in July. He excelled with a 5-1 mark and 2.36 ERA in 6 starts. In 42 innings, he fanned 39 and walked 9. That's why he was honoured today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Jackie Robinson League. In 25 starts this season, Durán has picked up 15 wins while suffering 5 losses. He has pitched 164 innings, allowed 160 hits, struck out 129 and posted a 3.57 ERA...
Hot-hitting Anastasio Gonzáles of the Lanaya City Monarchs garnered the Rookie of the Month honours for July in the Roberto Clemente League. Posting a .339 average last month, he collected 37 hits, 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 14 runs scored. Thus far this year Gonzáles is hitting .323 with 10 home runs, 54 RBIs and 48 runs scored...
A boyish Gerald O'Keefe emerged as the latest Jackie Robinson League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Jenress deserved the honour, batting .416 with 5 home runs and 16 runs batted in. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let O'Keefe enjoy the limelight. For 2010 O'Keefe is batting .353 with 14 home runs, 42 RBIs and 58 runs scored...

Eddie Bergstrom, the 36-year-old first baseman, a favorite in the Luxembourg Rivercats clubhouse, hit .520 last week as he put up Player of the Week numbers. Bergstrom also put together 13 hits in 25 at-bats, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs for the week. During the 2010 season Bergstrom has hit .371 with 37 home runs and 90 RBIs. He has played in 110 games and scored 93 times...
So far in his young career, Mike Weeks has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Jackie Robinson League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 22-year-old Delphi Pythons left fielder hit at a torrid .478 clip as he collected 11 hits in 23 at-bats, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 6 runs scored. This year Weeks is hitting .333 with 4 home runs...
